As part of the promotions for Kanyakumari, Madhu Shalini gave an interview to Jeevi from Idlebrain. She shared her entire journey from the time she thought of quitting after just one film twenty years ago to now turning producer. She said that over these two decades, while managing different roles as an actress and as an individual, she has matured a lot.
Starting her career with television, Madhu Shalini gained recognition with Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Andarivadu, which opened the door for film opportunities. However, she admitted that in the beginning she didn’t know how to choose roles wisely and faced problems because of it. She realized only later that once you do a particular kind of role, filmmakers tend to call you back for similar roles.
Since she kept getting typecast in the same roles, she stepped into the Tamil industry. Even before Andala Rakshasi, she acted in a Tamil film with Naveen Chandra, which led to her getting an opportunity in Bala’s Vaadu-Veedu. She considers it her fortune to have worked with such a great director. She revealed that for the first eight months after the shoot began, she didn’t even get her first shot, yet she went to the sets every day, sitting next to Bala and observing him, learning a lot from his working style. She recalled that when Bala got angry, he would throw the mic and walk away.
Responding to Jeevi’s question whether director Bala hits actors on set, she clarified, “I never saw Bala hitting actors. Even with Telugu director Teja, who has that reputation, I never faced such a situation. On the contrary, he praised my acting many times.”
She said her role in Goodachari brought her great recognition, but after that she was repeatedly approached for similar RAW agent-type roles. That is why she couldn’t do many Telugu films. After a long time, she is now acting in Goodachari 2. She added that it was after Pawan Kalyan saw her performance as a journalist in another film that she got another good journalist role in Gopala Gopala.
Madhu Shalini observed that earlier filmmakers used to cast new actors and work to make them popular, but nowadays they prefer casting people who are already popular on social media. She admitted her friends often criticize her for not being active on Instagram and Twitter.
She revealed that she is currently working as a producer and director on a science-fiction film. She also runs a Chess Academy in Hyderabad, preferring to work quietly without unnecessary noise.
On Kanyakumari, she explained that one of the main reasons she wanted to promote this film is because her parents’ marriage was also a love marriage, and her father, like the film’s hero, came from an agricultural background. She praised the film’s lead pair Sricharan Rachakonda and Geet Saini as wonderful actors and said the team faced many struggles to make the movie. Some even sold gold, and others took loans to support the film.
“In one way, Kanyakumari is nothing short of a crowd-funded film,” Madhu Shalini concluded.

'కన్యాకుమారి' సినిమా ప్రమోషన్లో భాగంగా మధుశాలిని 'ఐడిల్ బ్రెయిన్' జీవీకి ఇంటర్వ్యూ ఇచ్చారు. ఇరవై ఏళ్ల క్రితం తన కెరీర్ ఆరంభంలో ఒకే ఒక్క సినిమా చేసి ఆపేద్దామనుకున్న మధుశాలిని అప్పటినుండి నేడు నిర్మాతగా మారడం వరకూ ఆమె ప్రయాణం మొత్తాన్నీ వివరించారు. ఈ ప్రయాణంలో ఒక నటిగా, ఒక మనిషిగా, పలు రంగాల్లో తన పాత్రలను నిర్వహిస్తూ ఈ ఇరవై ఏళ్లలో చాలా పరిణితి చెందానన్నారు. టెలివిజన్ నుండి మొదలైన తన కెరీర్లో మెగాస్టార్ చిరంజీవి 'అందరివాడు' తో గుర్తింపు రావడంతో సినిమా అవకాశాలు రావడం మొదలయ్యాయని, కాకపోతే మొదట్లో పాత్రలను ఎంచుకునే విధానం తెలియక పోవడం వలన ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కోవాల్సివచ్చిందనారు. ఒక పాత్ర చేస్తే అలాంటి పాత్రలకే మళ్లీ పిలుస్తారన్న విషయం తనకు తెలియలేదన్నారు.
ఒకే రకం పాత్రలు రావడంతో తెలుగు పరిశ్రమ నుండి తమిళ పరిశ్రమ వైపు అడుగుపెట్టానన్నారు. ఆ క్రమంలోనే 'అందాల రాక్షసి' సినిమా కంటే ముందే హీరో నవీన్ చంద్రతో తమిళంలో ఒక సినిమా చేయడంతో, ఆ సినిమా కారణంగానే తనకు తమిళంలో 'వాడు- వీడు' అవకాశం లభించిందన్నారు. అలా 'బాలా' లాంటి గొప్ప దర్శకుడితో పనిచేసే అవకాశం దొరకడం తన అదృష్టమన్నారు. ఆ సినిమా షూటింగ్ మొదలైన ఎనిమిది నెలల వరకూ తనపై మొదటి షాట్ పడలేదని, అంతవరకూ క్రమం తప్పకుండా ప్రతి రోజూ సెట్టుకి వెళ్లి దర్శకుడి ప్రక్కనే కూర్చొని ఆయన పనితీరుని పరిశీలిస్తూ చాలా అంశాలను నేర్చుకోగలిగాన్నారు. 'బాలా' కు కోపమొస్తే, మైక్ విసిరేసి వెళ్ళిపోతారన్నారు.
"దర్శకుడు బాలా సెట్లో నటులను కొడతారా" అన్న జీవి ప్రశ్నకు సమాధానంగా, "సెట్లో బాలా నటులను కొట్టడం నేనైతే చూడలేదు, తెలుగు దర్శకుల్లో నటులను కొడతారని పేరున్న తేజ విషయంలో నాకెప్పుడూ ఇలాంటి పరిస్థితి ఎదురుకాలేదు, పైపెచ్చూ నా నటనను చాలాసార్లు మెచ్చుకోవడం కూడా జరిగింది" అని చెప్పారు. 'గూఢచారి' సినిమాలో తన పాత్రకు మంచి గుర్తింపు రావడంతో, ఆ సినిమా తరువాత కూడా మళ్ళీ మళ్ళీ అదే 'రా ఏజెంట్' పాత్రల కోసమే తనను సంప్రదించేవారన్నారు. ఆ కారణంతోనే తెలుగులో ఎక్కువగా సినిమాలు చేయలేకపోయానన్నారు. చాలాకాలం తరువాత మళ్లీ ప్రస్తుతం 'గూఢచారి 2' లో నటిస్తున్నానన్నారు. ఒక సినిమాలో తన జర్నలిస్టు పాత్రను చూసే పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ 'గోపాల గోపాల' సినిమాలో కూడా మరో మంచి జర్నలిస్టు పాత్ర అవకాశం తనకు లభించిందన్నారు. ఇదివరకూ యాక్టర్లను తీసుకొని, వాళ్లను పాపులర్ చేయడానికి ప్రయత్నాలు చేసేవారని, నేడు అలా కాకుండా సోషల్ మీడియాలో పాపులర్ అయిన వాళ్లనే తీసుకోవడం జరుగుతుందన్నారు. 'ఇంస్టా గ్రామ్' మరియు ట్విట్టర్లో యాక్టివ్ గా ఉండకపోవడం వలన తన స్నేహితులు అంతా తనను తప్పుపడుతున్నారన్నారు. ప్రస్తుతం నిర్మాతగా, దర్శకురాలిగా ఒక సైన్స్ ఫిక్షన్ సినిమా చేస్తున్నట్టు ఆమె తెలిపారు.

'కన్యాకుమారి' సినిమాను ప్రమోట్ చేయడానికి ముఖ్యకారణం తన తల్లితండ్రులది కూడా ప్రేమ వివాహమే అని, తన తండ్రిది కూడా ఈ సినిమాలో హీరో మాదిరే వ్యవసాయ నేపథ్యమన్నారు. ఈ సినిమాలో హీరోహీరోయిన్లుగా నటించిన శ్రీచరణ్ రాచకొండ మరియు గీత్ సైనీలు అద్భుతమైన నటులని, 'కన్యాకుమారి' కోసం ఆ చిత్ర బృందం చాలా కష్టాలు ఎదుర్కొన్నారని, కొంతమంది బంగారం అమ్మేయడం, కొంతమంది లోన్లు తీసుకోవడం కూడా లాంటివి కూడా జరిగాయన్నారు. ఒక రకంగా చెప్పాలంటే 'కన్యాకుమారి' ఒక క్రౌడ్ ఫండెడ్ సినిమా మాదిరే అన్నారు.
