The glimpse of Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera, front-lined by Dhanush, Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, was released by superstar Mahesh Babu on Friday and it is every bit thrilling as expected, delivering a blockbuster wallop.
Close to a minute in length, it opens with an expansive shot of Dharavi slum in Mumbai with skyscrapers in the background before it cuts to Dhanush who is shown walking on a tunnel in an unkempt avatar with tattered clothes. Nagarjuna is introduced next, enjoying a good time with his family. Jim Sarbh as a corporate man and Rashmika Mandanna as a middle-class woman with dreams in her eyes are introduced soon after. As it comes to an end, Dhanush is shown in white and white, paying his obeisance to a temple, indicating that his role has multiple shades. It looks like the film revolves around these four principal characters.
With captivating visuals, intriguing premise and Devi Sri Prasad’s energetic score, the glimpse gives the first proper peek into the high-stakes world of the film, dominated by thrill, emotions and a sense of overwhelming mystery. Kammula should be lauded for his ability to create dense and engaging atmospherics and his firm grip on storytelling. Rounding up, the glimpse manages to build anticipation without giving away too much of the plot.
The film is jointly produced by Suniel Narang, Puskur Ram Mohan Rao and Kammula under Sri Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations Pvt Ltd banner. It is slated for a first half release in 2025.
