It has been more than a couple of years since Suresh Productions has acquired the all India remake rights of Venkat Prabhu’s sci-fi thriller Maanaadu. While the names of A-listers swirled around to top-line the casting in both Telugu and Hindi versions, the buzz, however, petered out in no time. We now hear that Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media is delighted with the way the script shaped up and is looking to take things forward – albeit in Hindi.

A source close to Ramanaidu Studios tells us exclusively, “Maanaadu remake is one of the many projects that Rana is actively pursuing on the production front, including the Hindi remake of Oh! Baby. Ashwin Gangaraju, who debuted as a director with Aakashavaani in 2021, has been tasked to work on the script and he gave it a complete new spin with a backdrop that Hindi audiences will be familiar with; it’s more of an adaptation than a remake. The script work has been completed and Rana is ecstatic about it.”

The source adds that Ashwin is also attached to direct the film in Hindi, thus marking his Bollywood debut. “Rana will be taking the script to actors in Hindi and once he gets the nod of a prominent face, it will be a matter of time before the principal photography begins. He is also looking at interested parties to jointly bankroll the film. The film’s genre is such that Rana and his team are extremely upbeat about its box office prospects,” the source reveals.

Maanaadu chronicled the story of a common man (played by Simbu) and a police officer (SJ Suryah), who are trapped in a time loop, on the day of a public conference of the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. It received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences for the integration of the time loop concept with commercial elements.
