Director Madan passes away

In a shocking bit of news, director Madan, who is best known for writing Aa Naluguru and directing Pellaina Kothalo, breathed his last today. He was admitted to Apollo Hospitals after he suffered from brain stroke five days ago and passed away battling it in the wee hours of Sunday.

Born and brought up in Madanapalle, Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, Madan did his graduation from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi at Annie Besant Theosophical College, Madanapalli. He used to write short stories and direct play-lets during his college days. Later he moved to Hyderabad to pursue his filmmaking dreams. He worked under prominent cameraman S Gopal Reddy for a couple of years before beginning his career as a co-writer.

He made a splash as a writer with Aa Naluguru, which is considered a major milestone in Rajendra Prasad’s career. The social drama, besides hitting the bull’s eye at the box-office, was feted with three Nandi Awards i.e. Best film, Best actor and Best character actor. Madan later floated a banner, Aa Naluguru films, and directed Pellaina Kothalo (2006) with Jagapathi Babu and Priyamani. It was a money spinner. Unfortunately, he couldn’t replicate success with his next set of films like Gunde Jhallumandi, Pravarakyudu, Coffee with My Wife and Garam. His last film as a director was the Mohan Babu-starrer Gayathri.

Madan’s last rites will be performed later in the noon today at Mahaprasthanam.
