Cinematographer-turned-director Karthik Gattamneni’s Mirai is one of the anticipated films of the year. Front-lined by Teja Sajja, Manchu Manoj and Ritika Nayak, the film already features a slew of prominent faces like Jagapathi Babu, Shriya Saran, Jayaram, Rajendranath Zutshi (Lagaan fame) and Venkatesh Maha in supporting roles. And the latest we hear is that director Kishore Tirumala too is playing a supporting role.
Yes, the same Kishore Tirumala who gave us love stories like Nenu Sailaja, Chitralahari and Second Hand. In fact Kishore played a key role in his Telugu directorial debut Second Hand, which largely went unnoticed despite boasting good content.
A source close to the unit of Mirai told us, “Karthik Gattamneni worked as a cinematographer on Kishore’s Chitralahari and they remained in touch ever since. Karthik saw a proper actor in Kishore while working on Chitralahari. In Mirai, there was a supporting role with a comic touch and he felt that Kishore could bring it alive with his skills. He approached Kishore and the director didn’t think twice to come on board. Besides the fact that it was a role with a good arc, his friendship with Karthik was another reason for him to have joined the team. He shot extensively for the film in Hyderabad and in Sri Lanka.”
Mirai is based on King Ashoka and his secret 9, with Teja playing a Super Yodha whose sole responsibility is to protect the nice sacred scriptures, whereas Manoj plays Black Sword, a skilled swordsman who is on a mission to take control of the nine scriptures that could transform a person into a God, setting the stage for an epic clash between good and evil.
Karthik has also penned the film’s screenplay alongside Manibabu Karanam, who worked on the former’s Eagle as well. TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory is producing the film which is slotted for a release later this year in 2D and 3D formats, in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi and Chinese languages.
