Director Praneeth Pattipati expressed his happiness over the audience's positive response to the film Patang. “The appreciation I am receiving for Patang is truly gratifying. Seeing audiences respond so well today makes me feel my hard work has paid off,” said Praneeth Pattipati. Patang, directed by Praneeth Pattipati, was produced under the banners of Cinematic Elements, Rishan Cinemas, and Monsoon Tales, and was presented by noted producer D. Suresh Babu. This sports drama has been produced by Vijay Shekhar Anne, Sampath Maka, Suresh Kothinti, and Nani Bandreddy.

Since its release, the film has been received as a youthful entertainer. Many viewers have praised it as “one of the best films in recent times.” On this occasion, director Praneeth Pattipati spoke to reporters on Monday.

When asked about the audience feedback, Praneeth Pattipati said, “Both word-of-mouth and box office collections are increasing day by day. The film is receiving a universally positive response. Audiences are expressing satisfaction, saying they have watched a good movie. Everyone is enjoying it. Especially the climax scenes give the feeling of watching a match live in a stadium.”

Speaking about his background, Praneeth Pattipati shared, “I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. I studied DFTech at Ramanaidu Film School. Patang is my debut film as a director.”

Explaining the reason behind making a film on kite competitions, he said, “It was a Sankranti day. While we have made films with sports stories like rugby, which we borrowed from abroad, I felt this is our native sport—so why not make a film on it? That’s how Patang started. After beginning the project, I realised why no one had made such a film before—because of the extensive CG work involved. The visual effects took a lot of time.”

When asked about the delay in the film’s release, Praneeth Pattipati responded, “The CG work took two years. It was very difficult. The primary reason for the delay was the CG in the climax scenes. Without any existing reference material, it took a lot of time. We did not compromise anywhere until the kites looked convincingly real on screen.”

Commenting on the support from the producers over the past three years, he said, “Our producers are the biggest strength of this film. I may have thought of compromising at times, but they never did. They spent significantly to ensure the film was made with quality. The richness and vibrant look of the film today is due to their investment.”

On industry support, he said, “Everyone from the film industry who has seen the movie has praised it immensely. Especially SKN, Sundeep Kishan, Bellamkonda Suresh, and Dil Raju have appreciated it a lot.”

Regarding difficulties in securing theatres during the Christmas season, Praneeth Pattipati said, “We are trying for theatres. I thought making the movie was the end of the journey, but only after making it did I realise the heavy effort involved in promotion and release. Even though the film has good word-of-mouth, due to lack of proper theatres and show timings, many people are unable to watch it. However, the theatres where the film is being screened are running full.”

When asked about director Gautham Vasudev Menon’s role in the film, he explained, “As per the script, we initially approached Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Dil Raju, S. J. Suryah, and Nag Ashwin for that role, but they declined due to scheduling conflicts. We then felt Gautham Menon would be perfect for the part and approached him. After listening to the story, he agreed. He also enjoyed the dialogues written for his character.”

Responding to a question about the disappointment of not securing enough theatres, he said, “I was upset on the first day. But slowly, the word-of-mouth began to spread. We are now receiving strong support from the industry.”

When asked what he learned during the journey of Patang, he said, “I learned a lot over these three years. More than filmmaking, marketing is extremely important.”

Praneeth Pattipati credited Nani Bandreddy as the key person behind initiating the project. “He is the reason this film started. The other producers were all brought in by him. There are no words to describe the effort and advice he contributed.”

On why the film was made with newcomers, he explained, “We felt newcomers would suit the story. I wrote the story and dialogues myself.”

Patang is set for a wide overseas release on January 1. “We are planning a wide release abroad on January 1. I believe audiences there will also love it,” he said.

When asked about his personal taste in films, he said, “I enjoy commercial films in the entertaining zone. The comedy in my next film will be ten times more than in Patang.”

Addressing comparisons of his filmmaking style to Sekhar Kammula, he said, “Yes, my friends also say the same. I’m happy to be compared to such a great director.”

Responding to a question about the heroine's character in the film appearing confused and lacking clarity, he said, “That’s actually based on my own character. I am often confused too. Though I am very precise when it comes to work, I tend to be confused about everything else. I’ve seen many people like that regularly.”

ఫీడ్‌బ్యాక్‌ ఎలా ఉంది?
టాక్‌తో పాటు కలెక్షన్లు రోజు రోజుకు పెరుగుతున్నాయి. యూనివర్సల్‌గా ఈ సినిమాకు హిట్‌టాక్‌..తో పాటు ఓ మంచిసినిమావ చూశామన్న సంతృప్తిని ఆడియన్స్‌ వ్యక్తం చేస్తున్నారు. ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ సినిమాను ఎంజాయ్‌ చేస్తున్నారు. ముఖ్యంగా సినిమా పతాక సన్నివేశాలు ఓ స్టేడియంలో ఓ మ్యాచ్‌ను చూస్తున్నఅనుభూతికి లోనవుతున్నారు.

మీ నేపథ్యం?

పతంగుల పోటీ నేపథ్యంలో సినిమా తీయడానికి కారణం ఏమిటి?
ఓ సంక్రాంతి రోజు అనిపించింది. మనం ఫారిన్‌ నుంచి తీసుకొచ్చిన రగ్బిలాంటి స్టోరీతో సినిమాలు తీశాం కానీ ఇది మన నేటివిటి స్పోర్ట్స్‌ కదా.. దీని మీద మనం ఎందుకు తీయలేము అని పతంగ్‌ను మొదలుపెట్టాం. సినిమా మొదలు పెట్టిన తరువాత ఎందుకు తీయలేదో అనే విషయం సీజీ వర్క్‌ అప్పుడు తెలిసింది. సీజీ వర్క్‌కు చాలా సమయం పట్టింది.

సినిమా విడుదలకు ఆలస్యం కావడానికి కారణం ఏమిటి?
సీజీ వర్క్‌కు రెండు సంవత్సరాలు పట్టింది. చాలా కఫ్టమైంది. సినిమా లేట్‌ అవ్వడానికి పతాక సన్నివేశాల్లో వచ్చే సీజీ వర్కే డిలే కారణం. ఎటువంటి రిఫరెన్స్‌ లేకపోవడంతో సీజీకి చాల సమయం తీసుకున్నాం. కైట్‌ ఎగిరేది వర్జినల్‌గా అనిపించేలా వచ్చే వరకు ఎక్కడా కాంప్రమైజ్‌ కాలేదు.

మూడు సంవత్సరాల సమయంలో నిర్మాతల సపోర్ట్‌ మీకు ఎలా ఉంది?
ఈ సినిమాకు బిగ్గెస్ట్‌ ప్లస్‌ మా నిర్మాతలే నేను ఎక్కడైనా రాజీపడ్డ వాళ్లు మాత్రం రాజీపడలేదు. ఎంతో ఖర్చు పెట్టి ఈ సినిమాను క్వాలిటీగా నిర్మించారు. ఈ రోజు సినిమా ఇంత రిచ్‌గా, కలర్‌ఫుల్‌గా కనిపించడానికి వాళ్లు పెట్టిన ఖర్చే కారణం.

సినీ పరిశ్రమ నుంచి ఎలాంటి సపోర్ట్‌ లభిస్తుంది?
సినీ పరిశ్రమలో సినిమా చూసిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ ఎంతో అభినందిస్తున్నారు. ముఖ్యంగా ఎస్‌కేఎన్‌,సందీప్‌కిషన్‌,బెల్లంకొండ సురేష్‌, దిల్‌ రాజులు ఎంతో మెచ్చుకున్నారు.

ఈ కిస్మస్‌ సీజన్‌లో విడుదల కావడంతో మీకు సరైన థియేటర్లు దొరకలేదు అంటున్నారు?
థియేటర్లు ట్రై చేస్తున్నాం. సినిమా తీయడంతో ఇక అయిపోయింది అనుకునేవాడ్ని.కానీ సినిమా తీసిన తరువాత మళ్లీ ప్రమోషన్‌,రిలీజ్‌ ఇంత పని ఉంటుందా అని నాకు ఈసినిమాతోనే తెలిసింది. మౌత్‌టాక్‌తో సినిమా బాగుంది అని తెలిసినా సరైన థియేటర్లు , టైమింగ్స్‌ లేకపోవడంతో సినిమా బాగున్నా జనాలకు అందుబాటులో లేకపోవడవం తో చూడలేకపోతున్నారు. అయితే సినిమా ఆడుతున్న థియేటర్లుమాత్రం ఫుల్‌ అవుతున్నాయి.

దర్శకుడు గౌతమ్‌ వాసుదేవ మీనన్‌ ఈ సినిమాలో ముఖ్యపాత్రలో కనిపించారు? ఆ ఐడియా ఎవరిది?
స్క్రిప్ట్‌లో అనుకున్న ప్రకారం ఆ పాత్రకు మొదట సందీప్‌ రెడ్డి వంగా, దిల్‌రాజు, ఎస్‌జే సూర్య నాగ్‌ అశ్విన్‌, ఇలా ఎక్స్‌పెక్ట్‌ చేయని వాళ్లను అడిగాం. కానీ వర్కింగ్ డేస్‌ ఎక్కువగా ఉండటం వల్ల ఒప్పుకోలేదు. ఇక సినిమాలో గౌతమ్‌ మీనన్‌ పాత్రనున గౌతమ్‌మీనన్‌ చేస్తే బాగుంటుందని అయన్ని ఆప్రోచ్‌ అయ్యాం. ఆయనపాత్ర కథ,విని ఒప్పుకున్నారు. ఆయన మీద పంచ్‌లు వేయడం కూడా బాగా నచ్చింది.

థియేటర్లు మీ సినిమాకు దొరకకపోవడం బాధగా ఉందా?
మొదటిరోజు బాధపడ్డాను. స్లోగా టాక్‌ స్ప్రెడ్‌ అయ్యింది.సినీ పరిశ్రమ నుంచి ఎక్కువ సపోర్ట్‌ వస్తుంది.

పతంగ్‌ జర్నీలో మీరు తెలుసుకున్నది ఏమిటి?
మూడు సంవత్సరాల జర్నీలో చాలా నేర్చుకున్నాను. సినిమా తీయ్యడం కంటే మార్కెటింగ్‌ చాలా ముఖ్యమని తెలిసింది.

ఈ సినిమా సెట్స్‌ మీదకు వెళ్లడానికి ముఖ్య కారణం ఎవరు?
నాని బండ్రెడ్డి ఈ సినిమాకు మొదలు కావడానికి కారణం. మిగతా వాళ్లంతా నాని తీసుకొచ్చిన ప్రొడ్యూసర్‌. ఆయన సలహాలు,సూచనలు, ఆయన పెట్టిన ఎఫర్ట్‌ చెప్పడానికి మాటల్లేవు.

ఈ సినిమా కొత్తవాళ్లతో చేయడానికి కారణం?
కథకు తగ్గట్టుగా కొత్తవాళ్లతోనే అనుకున్నాం. కథ, మాటలు అన్నీ నేను రాసుకున్నాను.

జనవరి 1న ఓవర్‌సీస్‌లో ఎలాంటి విడుదల ఉండబోతుంది?
ఓవర్‌సీస్‌ జనవరి 1న చాలా వైడ్‌గా రిలీజ్‌గా చేయ్యబోతున్నాం. అక్కడి ఆడియన్స్‌ కూడా ఇంకా బాగా నచ్చుతుందని నమ్ముతున్నాను.

పర్సనల్‌గా మీకు ఎలాంటి సినిమాలు ఇష్టం?
ఎంటర్‌టైనింగ్‌ జోన్‌లో కమర్షియల్‌ సినిమాలు చాలా ఇష్టం.పతంగ్‌లో కామెడీకి టెన్ టైమ్స్ నా తదుపరి సినిమాలో ఉంటుంది.

మీ టేకింగ్‌ను చాలా మంది శేఖర్‌ కమ్ములతో పోల్చుతున్నారు?
అవునండి.. నా మిత్రులు కూడా అందే అంటున్నారు. ఓ గొప్ప దర్శకుడితో పోల్చడం నాకు కూడా హ్యపీనే

ఈ సినిమాలో హీరోయిన్‌ పాత్ర ఎంతో కన్‌ఫ్యూజ్‌గా క్లారిటీ లేకుండా ఉంటుంది? ఈ పాత్రకు ఎవరైనా ఇన్‌స్పిరేషన్‌ ఉన్నారా?

అది నా క్యారెక్టరే... నాకు కూడా చాలా కన్‌ఫ్యూజన్‌ ఉంటుంది. రెగ్యులర్‌ కూడా నేను అలాంటి వాళ్లను చాలామందిని చూశాను. నేను వర్క్‌ విషయంలో పర్‌ఫెక్ట్‌గా ఉన్నా మిగతా విషయాల్లో కన్‌ఫ్యూజ్‌ అవుతుంటాను.
