SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which continues to make India proud in the West, and Mani Ratnam’s historical drama Ponniyin Selvan: 1 have scored multiple nominations at the Asian Film Awards that were declared yesterday. While RRR has got nods in Best Visual Effects and Best Sound category, Ponniyin bagged nominations in Best Film, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Music, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. The six nominations for the box-office smash PS: 1, set against the backdrop of Chola kingdom and based on the novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, is one of the best ever tally achieved by a South Asian title at the AFAs.
“Thrilled that #PS1 has been nominated for six awards at the 16th Asian Film Awards @busanfilmfest,” production house Lyca posted on Twitter on Saturday.
Decision to Leave, which won the coveted Best Director at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, is leading the nominations with 10 nods, including Best Film and Best Director, while Drive My Car secured eight nominations.
PS: 1 will be competing with Decision to Leave, Drive My Car, Poet, and When the Waves Are Gone for the Best Film award.
The awards ceremony will be held at 7:30pm on 12 March (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
