The duo of Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur, who produced Liger, were grilled by the Enforcement Directorate officials for more than 12 hours yesterday in Hyderabad. They were called to be questioned over suspected violations of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Based on a complaint by Congress leader Bakka Judson, who alleged that Liger was funded through nefarious means and that it was made specifically to convert black money to white money, ED opened a file.

The ED is believed to have questioned the duo on the source of funds, if there were any investors from foreign countries and the way payments were made to actors like Mike Tyson.

This is the second instance that both Puri and Charmee had appeared before ED. In 2021, they were quizzed by the agency concerning allegations that money laundering took place in the infamous drugs case registered by the State Excise and Enforcement wing in 2017.

Liger, which opened on August 25 earlier this year in multiple languages amid high expectations, flubbed at the box-office, causing huge losses to its distributors.
