Speaking to Variety on the sidelines of the Berlin European Film Market, Icon star Allu Arjun promised that viewers will get to see the highest end of the spectrum in terms of his characterization in Pushpa: The Rule, the sequel to Pushpa: The Rise.

“Pushpa 2 is going to have a very different shade of Pushpa than what you've seen in Pushpa 1, because it is the lower end of the spectrum that you've seen.

“You'll see the highest end of the spectrum in terms of characterisation. So you'll see him on a very high note, you'll see him on a very high scale, in terms of characterisation, in terms of this scale and presentation and the canvas of the problems are going to be much bigger than what it was compared to Pushpa 1. It's going to be a bigger canvas, and there is a different dimension to the characterization,” Bunny, as he is fondly called, said.

One of the biggest box office hits of 2021, Pushpa: The Rise depicted the rise of a coolie Pushpa Raj (played by Arjun) in the smuggling syndicate of red sandalwood, a rare wood that grows only in the Seshachalam Hills of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh state. The second part will see Pushpa’s reign as he is now the head of smuggling syndicate, while also focusing on his tiff with SP Bhanwar Singh (played by Fahadh Faasil) who is keen to settle scores with him after being humiliated (towards the end of the first part). “Till then it was playing on a regional scale, now it will play on a national and international scale,” Arjun said, while assuring that the conflict with Bhanwar Singh is going to “escalate to a much bigger, bigger scale.”

Arjun, who won a national award for the film, also spoke about plans for a third part as well. “You can definitely expect part three, we do want to make it a franchise and we have exciting ideas for the lineup,” he added.

Written and directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Pushpa: The Rule is slated to release on August 15 later this year.
