Decorated filmmaker SS Rajamouli has been harbouring a dream of making Mahabharat for eons and he spoke about it in various interviews over the years. At a recent event in Hyderabad, when asked how many episodes he sees adapting Mahabharat, which was a 266-episode show on TV, the hit maker said, “I don’t know. It’s a tough question. If I get to the point of making Mahabharat, first to read all the versions that are existing in the country would take a year or more… just to read…not even putting one word on the paper… it would be such a huge project. At present I can only make a guess. I’m assuming it would be 10 parts (of films).”

He added that Mahabharat is the aim of his life. “Every film I make, I feel that I’m learning something to ultimately make Mahabharata. That is my dream. So every step is towards that. I will make it for myself,” he informed.

Up next though, Rajamouli is making a globe-trotting action adventure with superstar Mahesh Babu. In the writing stage still, there’s no production date attached to the project.
