Close on the heels of SS Rajamouli bagging Best Director Award at the prestigious New York Film Critics Circle awards 2022 for his RRR, the film added another feather to its cap. The cast and crew of the period action-piece will receive the Hollywood Critics Association’s (HCA’s) Spotlight Award at the sixth Annual HCA Film Awards Ceremony to be held in Los Angeles on February 24 next year.

“We RRR elated... The cast and crew of #RRRMovie bags the prestigious HCA Spotlight Winner Award! We'd like to thank the @HCAcritics jury for recognising #RRRMovie !,” posted production house DVV Entertainment on Tuesday.

“As a person of Indian descent, it has been surreal to FINALLY see an Indian film become a global phenomenon the way that RRR has. The cultural impact that RRR has had on audiences worldwide makes it the perfect choice for this year’s Spotlight Award,” said HCA board member Rasha Goel after the announcement.

“The HCA has worked diligently to elevate and promote underrepresented voices in the industry, and Indian storytellers are amongst some of the most overlooked here in the United States. We, as an organisation, couldn’t be happier celebrating this remarkable film and all those who brought this project to life,” she added.

That’s not it. RRR also walked away with the Best International Picture trophy at Atlanta Film Critics Circle and Saturn Awards. The multiple award trophies should put RRR at the front and centre of things in the run up to the Academy Awards where it is competing in multiple categories.

Set in 1920s pre-independent India, RRR revolves around the fictional exploits of two real freedom fighters Komaram Bheem (played by NTR) and Alluri Seetharama Raju (Charan) against the British Raj.
