Looks like there is no stopping SS Rajamouli’s RRR juggernaut in Japan. After beating the lifetime collections of superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Muthu there last month and emerging as the highest collecting Indian film, the land of the rising sun has offered one more reason for the team of RRR to rejoice. The Japan Academy Awards or The Japan Academy Film Prize has chosen the action extravaganza for Outstanding Foreign Film. The award comes in the wake of RRR winning a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and two Critics Choice Awards for Best Song (Naatu Naatu) and Best Foreign Language Film.
The Japan Academy Awards is an annual award ceremony established in 1978 by Nippon Academy Award Association. The award ceremony will take place on March 10 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, in Japan, RRR continues to shine at the ticket counters. Dolby Vision prints of the film were released last week and more Imax screens were added, leading to a hike in admissions.
RRR centres around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Seetharamaraju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR), their friendship, their differences and their fight against the British Raj. DVV Danayya produced it.
