The wind seems to be certainly blowing towards RRR favour. Box-office records, enormous love in the West and multiple award nominations later, the film has added one more feather to its cap. After crossing the lifetime collections of Baahubali: The Conclusion (JPY 300 million) in the Land of the Rising Sun, where it released in October, RRR has now managed to do the unthinkable: break the record collections of superstar Rajinikanth-starrrer Muthu (JPY 400 million) in Japan. Muthu’s record stood for 27 years.

Yes, you read it right. The period action-drama, which is making all the right noises in the run up to Oscar nominations next month, has collected 410 million Yen so far in Japan, while registering an impressive 271k footfall in 55 days. “Delighted to share that #RRRMovie is now the 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢 with the 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡 for 𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙢 𝙞𝙣 𝙅𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙣! Thank you for all the love you showered on our stars and director ever since the film's release,” posted production house DVV Entertainment on their Twitter handle Friday.

RRR, overall, managed to end its theatrical run at 1,144 crores gross at the worldwide box-office. With an additional 25 crores coming from Japan now, the number has soared further. The next target seems to be China for the makers.

Set in 1920s pre-independent India, RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, revolves around the fictional exploits of two real freedom fighters Komaram Bheem (played by NTR) and Alluri Seetharama Raju (Charan) against the British Raj.
