SS Rajamouli’s RRR has done the unthinkable. In a first for Indian cinema, the song from the film, Naatu Naatu, has made it to the 95th Academy Awards final list announced sometime back. The unveiling was done via a live presentation at Oscars HQ in Hollywood hosted by Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams.

“WE CREATED HISTORY!! Proud and privileged to share that #NaatuNaatu has been nominated for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. #Oscars #RRRMovie,” posted RRR production house DVV Entertainment on Tuesday.

The latest recognition for the infectiously catchy song – composed by Keeravani, written by Chandrabose, sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava and choreographed by Prem Rakshith– comes in the wake of it winning a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award earlier this month.

Naatu Naatu will be competing with “Lift Me Up" from Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever, "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick, “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman and “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All At Once for the top prize come March 12 when the Oscars will be awarded at Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

On the other hand, the makers had high hopes for the film to be nominated in the International Feature Film section but it missed out.

RRR centres around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Seetharamaraju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR), their friendship, their differences and their fight against the British Raj. It gained popularity in India and worldwide, for the grandeur of the sets, action and energetic aura of the story and narration.
