“I would absolutely love to do that. I can’t reveal many details about it. My father is a story writer for all my films, including RRR. We discussed a bit about it (RRR 2) and he is working on the story,” Rajamouli had said to a query on the possibility of RRR2 last month. He was speaking in a Chicago theatre post the special screening of RRR.

Dwelling more on the subject in an interview with international film website Variety, Rajamouli said the sequel was not initially on the cards but the acclaim the film got in the West made him think otherwise.

“With the initial success of it, we discussed a little bit and threw out some good ideas, but we didn’t feel there was a great idea that was worth pursuing, so we left it at that.

“Then, after the international success, when the topic came up again, my cousin [SS Kanchi] — who is also a part of my core team — gave an idea which we felt like, ‘Oh my God, this is a great idea. This is the idea that is worth pursuing’,” the director said.

Immediately, he asked his father Vijayendra Prasad to devote time to it and “expand the idea”. “At present, he’s seriously working on the story; he’s getting it done,” revealed Rajamouli. “But once this script is done is when we really look into how to make it, when to make it, and how to bring it onto the screen.”

While it’s too early for more details about the sequel, Rajamouli has assured that his Ramaraju (Ram Charan) and Bheem (Jr NTR) will be returning.

RRR imagined a fictional team-up between two revolutionary folk heroes (portrayed by Jr NTR and Ram Charan) who unite to fight against the British Raj.
