It has been more than a couple of weeks since victory Venkatesh-starrer Sankranthiki Vastunam, written and directed by Anil Ravipudi, released, and it is showing no signs of box office fatigue. The film’s success is a testament to the fact that the Sankranti season and a good family film can do wonders at the ticket counters.
It is the highest grossing Venkatesh film to date. A senior hero who at the most was expected to do an Rs 100 cr gross, the film’s unparalleled reach is an example of his pull among the family audience and his super hit combination with Ravipudi. It has emerged as the biggest regional hit (only one language) in India so far and it will take some time for other films to break this record.
The film, with a peppy soundtrack, will reach the coveted Rs 300 cr club this Sunday and Venky will be the first among his peers to have achieved this rare feat.
In Sankranthiki Vastunam, Venkatesh plays an ex-cop on a mission to capture a dangerous criminal who has taken hostage a state’s guest. The mission sees him sandwiched between his wife (played by Aishwarya Rajesh) and ex-girlfriend (Meenakshi Chaudhary), leading to a volley of hilarious situations. Sirish has produced it, with Dil Raju serving as the presenter.
