Supposed to have been released on Sunday, the trailer of Swag, headlined by Sree Vishnu and directed by Hasith Goli, arrived on Monday and it lives up to the expectations of the actor-director combination that gave us the delightful Raja Raja Chora.
Clocking it at a little over two-and-a-half minutes, the trailer opens in 1551, where a king (played by Vishnu) boasts about spending some private time with a French princess. When his assistant asks whether the princess could utter the king’s bloodline name, the king responds, ‘As she couldn’t utter Swaganika in bed, she was limited to just Swag.’ Cut to the present times and a character played by Goparaju Ramana is on the lookout for the heir to Swaganika bloodline to handover the treasure. Bhavabuti (Vishnu again) says he is the heir, while a character played Ritu Varma tries to play the saboteur. She has her own reasons for it. Hasith seems to be treading the theme of gender dynamics across eras in this film, which promises to be another content-rich film from him.
Overall, the trailer looks somewhat complex with so many avatars of Vishnu dotting it but you’d expect Hasith to break it down and narrate it in a simple way. Vishnu is at the top of his game, displaying great versatility, while Ritu Varma seems to have landed a role that could take her to the next level. The background score by Vivek Sagar complements the different moods of the trailer well.
Also featuring Meera Jasmine, Daksha Nagarkar, Saranya Pradeep, Sunil, Ravi Babu and Getup Srinu in supporting roles, Swag opens in cinemas on October 4th.
