The trailer of Tantra, featuring Ananya Nagalla, Dhanush Raghumudri, Saloni, Temper Vamsi and Meesala Lakshman, was dropped by the makers on Wednesday and going by the looks of it, a spook-fest which sends chills down the spine of the viewers is in the offing.

Playing out over two minutes and 23 seconds, the trailer opens with an eerie shot of Ananya’s role spotting a girl with an unkempt hair sitting in the corner of a bathroom, while her granny doesn’t notice anyone in the same place. It transitions to Lakshman’s part talking about Indrajith performing ksudhra puja to Nikumbala Devi during the Ramayana war before it cuts to the pleasant rural love story involving Ananya and Dhanush. Soon, Temper Vamsi is introduced as an occultist. He tells another character, ‘what if I kill your wife using black magic’? The latter is overjoyed. As the trailer progresses, it’s obvious that something evil and supernatural is transpiring. It concludes with Ananya possessed by an evil spirit. To what extent Dhanush goes to save her seems to form the crux of the story.

Overall, Tantra trailer simmers with constant tension, creating an intense horror film that refuses to abide by genre conventions. Sidestepping away from cliché, its presentation of the occult feels terrifyingly authentic and truly scary. Midway into the trailer, the terror has already gripped you to your seat, creating a riveting ride. The sound design and the background score add to the impact.

Made under First Copy Movies, Be The Way Films and Vizag Film Factory, with Naresh Babu P and Ravi Chaitanya serving as producers, Tantra, written and directed by Srinivas Gopisetti, lands in theatres on March 15.
