Actor Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, who has been battling for his life at Narayana Hrudayalaya Centre, Bengaluru for the past 23 days, breathed his last sometime back. He was 39.

The actor-TDP leader, grandson of former chief minister of AP, NT Ramarao, suffered cardiac arrest during TDP general secretary Lokesh’s Yuvagalam padayatra in Kuppam on January 27 and was immediately shifted to a hospital in Kuppam with resuscitation for 45 minutes and primary treatment. He was later transferred to Bengaluru for better treatment.

Born on February 22, 1983 in Hyderabad, Taraka Ratna is the son of Mohan Krishna, who worked as a cinematographer. He made his acting debut with A Kodandarami Reddy’s Okato Number Kurradu (2002) when he was 20 years old. While the film fared decently, his subsequent films failed to light up the box office. Undeterred, he proved his mettle and versatility as an actor with films like Badradri Ramudu, Yuvarathna, Amaravati and Nandeeswarudu. For his villainous turn in Amaravati, he was awarded the Nandi. His last acting was S5 No Exit. Popular actors Jr NTR and Kalyanram are his cousins.

Taraka Ratna married Alekya Reddy in 2012 and has a daughter.

His mortal remains will be placed at Film Chamber on Monday morning for people to pay their respects, while the last rites will be performed at Mahaprasthanam on the same evening.

Upon learning about their colleague’s demise, Tollywood celebs like Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Ravi Teja, Allari Naresh and Sai Tej among others took to Twitter to pour in their condolences.
