With Matka behind him, Varun Tej will be commencing work on his next with Merlapaka Gandhi from March 2025. The project, tentatively titled Korean Kanakaraju, is a full-length entertainer laced with tropes of horror.
“The initial schedule will last 40 days. While the shoot will kick off in Hyderabad, the makers will be visiting Anantapur as well for some time. It will be a different film for Varun. Even though Matka didn’t do well at the box office, the makers of this new film are confident about their script. Varun too is keen to get back to winning ways and only after wrapping up this film will he dive into Vikram Sirikonda’s next with Mythri Movie Makers,” a source close to the development told us.
The source added that the makers will jet off to South Korea for a schedule of 40 days after they complete the Indian leg. “The likes of Satya, Harsh Vardhan, John Vijay, VTV Ganesh and some noted faces from Jabardasth are on board to play supporting roles in the film. Merlapaka has already started conducting informal workshops with the actors, including Varun to get the comedy timing and the Rayalaseema dialect right,” the source revealed further.
Thaman is on board to compose music for the project, a First Frame Entertainments production, and he has already recorded a couple of songs.
