The trailer of Viraaji, featuring Varun Sandesh, was shared by the makers on Thursday and it hints at a dark psychological thriller which will keep you glued to your seats.

Nearly two minutes in length, the trailer opens with a palatial structure before we get to see Varun Sandesh and three other characters. There’s an air of mystery surrounding Varun’s part which gets to the nerves of the others. Cut to a voiceover who says that an asylum was built for mental patients in the ‘70s outside the village on a hill and it ran well for some time. At the same time, the voiceover pauses, letting us assume that the patients were exposed to a wide variety of experimentations. Cut to the present and we get to see some strange incidents happening in the house. At one point, Varun says to one of the characters, “He just passed away, right? He is a fresh spirit. That’s why I’m calling him so that he will be back.” While the director chooses not to reveal the plot, he employs quick cuts to elevate tension.

Overall, Viraaji trailer, offering a mix of emotions, action and suspense, promises an unsettling and twisty thriller with a past that is dreadful. The trailer keeps building in intrigue without truly revealing its premise. Also, a majority of the film has been shot in the night and it adds to the suspense. The background score by Ebenezer Paul heightens the eerie feeling, while Varun seems to have landed another praiseworthy turn after Nindha.

Also featuring Raghu Karumanchi, Pramodini, Balagam Jayaram, Viva Raghava, Ravi Teja Nannimaala, Kakinada Nani, Phani Acharya, Aparnadevi, Kushalini Pulapa and Prasad Behara, Viraaji, which marks the directorial debut of Adhyanth Harsha, is a production venture of Mahendra Nath Kondla. It opens in cinemas on August 2nd.
