Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha Menon-starrer Virupaksha has hit a century (revenue-wise) at the box office. Opening to glowing reviews when it released last April 21, the film continued to maintain steady momentum to breach the Rs 100 mark. In doing so, it became Sai’s first film to gross Rs 100 crores. Also, it is the fifth film of the year–after Waltair Veerayya, Veera Simha Reddy, Sir and Dasara– to enter the 100 crore club.
“Supreme Hero @IamSaiDharamTej's #Virupaksha celebrates the Spectacular Commercial Triumph #BlockbusterVirupaksha amasses Incredible 100 Crores with Immense Love from audience,” posted film’s production house SVCC on Twitter on Thursday.
In the US, where it enjoyed a great patronage, it collected $ 1.28 million– double than that of Sai’s highest grosser, Prathiroju Pandage. The film’s success was a prime example of good content meets great execution. General audience and reviewers were bowled over by the film’s content, direction, background score, sound design and performances.
While it couldn’t replicate the same success in other languages like Hindi and Tamil where it released on May 5, the fact remains it is one of the most profitable films in Telugu this year based on return of investment.
Directed by Karthik Dandu Virupaksha, a supernatural horror mystery, will be available for streaming on Netflix from May 21.
