Virupaksha, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha Menon, continues to stamp its authority at the ticket counters. After registering more than impressive footfalls in the first two days amounting to a combine of Rs 28 crore, the film had an outstanding Sunday as well as it collected an equivalent of Saturday figures, i.e. Rs 16 crore. With this, the total gross stood at an excellent Rs 44 crore.
For a film, which has done a theatrical business of Rs 25 crore, the share now stands at a touch over Rs 20 crore in the first three days. At this rate, the distributors will be in the black from Tuesday all over the Telugu states.
In the US, where its patronage is swelling day by day, it neared $700k in the USA by the weekend and is marching towards breaching the $ 1 million mark by Tuesday.
Praise for the film has gone to its content, direction, background score, sound design and performances. Directed by Karthik Dandu, who earlier made the damp squib Bham Bholenath, Virupaksha is a mystery thriller which narrates how Surya (Sai Tej) tries to thwart Rudravanam villagers being killed from evil forces. Sukumar has penned the film’s screenplay, while SVCC and Sukumar Writings jointly produced it.
Overall, it has been a good first four months so far for Telugu cinema, with Waltair Veerayya, Veera Simha Reddy, Writer Padmabhushan, Sir, Balagam, Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha, Das Ka Dhamki and Dasara proving to be profitable ventures. With Virupaksha, April will end on a high note.
