It looks like vintage Sreenu Vaitla is back going by the teaser of his next, Viswam, starring Gopichand. It was dropped by the makers on Tuesday.
A little over two minutes, the teaser opens with Senior Naresh and Pragathi, parents of Kavya Thapar, looking for a suitor for her. Kavya has her own demands for the man of her life. Enter Gopichand who says he likes his dad a lot and if anybody badmouths him, he doesn’t hesitate to let his fury on them. He even slaps Naresh over it. We later get to see a battery of comedians like Sunil, Rahul Ramakrishna, Shakalaka Shankar, Bharath and Praveen entering the story. There’s VTV Ganesh as well as a ticket collector who doesn’t let miscreants board a train, prompting Gopi to ask him ‘whether he knows martial arts?’ “Except Geetha Arts and NTR Arts, I don’t know any other arts,” Ganesh quips in his trademark fashion. And there’s the reliable Vennela Kishore as well, whose mere presence is enough to elicit laughs. The teaser later transitions to action mode as we see Gopi pinning down a raft of adversaries with effortless ease. He also reels a famous dialogue of YS Jagan which became viral after the former AP CM lost polls in 2014. It concludes with Vennela Kishore throwing an unconscious goon off a moving train.
Summing up, the teaser is filled with gag after gag, which land. Sreenu seems to have made Gopi not just flex his muscles but land comic punches as well. Naresh, Vennela Kishore and VTV Ganesh and co seemed to be at their absolute best, while the presence of more comedians means we are guaranteed more laughs. For fans of Gopi’s action avatar, the teaser nicely balances action as well, promising us a humorous popcorn entertainer laced with action reminiscent of Vaitala’s past films before he hit a rough patch. The background score seems to have a hangover of Animal's score but we aren’t complaining as long as we get to see Vaitla back in form. And by the looks of the teaser, it is filled with a train episode similar to that of Venky. Who isn’t up for it? Bet everyone is.
Produced jointly by TG Vishwa Prasad and Venu Donepudi, Viswam sails into cinemas on October 11.
