The makers of Gopichand-starrer Viswam on Sunday released the trailer and it has everything that you’d expect from a Sreenu Vaitla entertainer. Action. Check. Rib-tickling humour (lots of it). Check. Drama. Check. Emotion. Check.

Now let us dig a bit more into the trailer. Playing out over two minutes and 39 seconds, it opens with a voiceover of a terror mastermind who says that Indian forces may be eliminating terrorists at the border but he is nurturing new terrorists within the country. “India will witness Diwali very soon,” he warns. Enter Gopichand who seems to be playing a commando of an Indian elite force and someone who neutralizes threats that pose a danger to the internal security with effortless ease. There’s a glimpse of Kick Shyam as well; his thread seems to have a major impact on the story. The trailer soon cuts to comedy mode with actors like Naresh Vijayakrishna, Pragathi, Bharath and ilk flexing their comedy muscles. There’s Pridhvi as well. He seems to have landed a meaty part and as usual he is spot on with his timing. There’s Sunil too and he is playing a grey character. Vaitla has conceived a train episode with Vennela Kishore leading the charge, with Giri, Shakalaka Shankar, Chammak Chandra and VTV Ganesh for company. By the looks of it, the episode has come out well and if it connects with the audience, Vaitla is poised for a comeback. The trailer later transitions to action mode with Gopi bashing and shooting goons mercilessly, prompting a character played by Jishu Sengupta to label him as a monster. It concludes on a lighter note with Pridhvi pleading for a charger from Sunil in what appears to be a serious scene.

Overall, the trailer manages to build anticipation without giving away too much of the plot. There are several laugh-out-loud moments juxtaposed with action and thrill, ensuring that the film appeals to both action enthusiasts and comedy lovers. The comedy, especially, is healthy and reminds you of Vaitla’s acclaimed films like Venky, Dookudu and Baadshah. Gopichand is good at action and equally at ease with humour. The background score, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

Produced jointly by TG Vishwa Prasad and Venu Donepudi, Viswam, with Kavya Thapar opposite Gopi, blazes into cinemas on October 11.
