Although murmurs about Tamil actor Jiiva headlining Yatra 2, directed by Mahi V Raghav, have been doing the rounds for over three months, it has now been confirmed that he indeed will be the face of the political drama, which is a slotted for a release next February in time for AP heading for assembly polls.
Sources tell us that the Yatra 2, which will be a spiritual sequel to Yatra, is already on the floors now and the filming is in full-swing with Jiiva too joining the shoot. “While Yatra was shot on a compact budget, the sequel is set on a lavish scale and mounted on a big budget,” sources add.
A joint production venture between V Celluloids and Mahi’s Three Autumn Leaves, Yatra 2’s music is being composed by Santosh Narayanan, while Madhie is the cinematographer.
Like Yatra, which focused on late YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s epic foot march before he was voted to power, Yatra 2 will focus on YS Jagan’s padayatra before he became the Chief Minister of AP in 2019. It may also cover what happened after he left Congress and his loss in 2014 by a whisker.
In fact, the makers have hinted about the padayatra in the motion poster they released on July 8, the 74th birth anniversary of YSR. The glimpse ended with a leader (Jagan) climbing the footsteps of a hand-shaped statue and later declaring to the crowd, “You may not know me now, but remember that I am the son of YS Rajasekhar Reddy.”
