Bay Area Telugu Association (BATA) organized it’s 12th Annual Volleyball Tournament at Newark, California. Proceeds were donated to the “India Literacy Project “(ILP).
You Smile Dental, MyTax Flier, PNG Jewelers, Visitors Guru, Arjun Tax, Cal Homes, Paatasala, Classic Diamonds were the sponsors for the event and the food sponsor was Biryaniz.
Due to the overwhelming response and on public request, this year the organizers added categories “Throw Ball for women” and “Youth VolleyBall” groups. There were 3 groups “Advanced”, “Intermediate" & “Recreation” for Men and one group for Women. In total over 50 teams participated in this event, involving more than 300 players. The playing ground was packed with well-prepared players and enthusiastic supporters and fans. The tournament started early morning around 8am and went throughout the day till 7pm.
The teams participating varied from seasoned volleyball teams to casual players who wanted to come and support the cause. Most of the matches were very closely contested. The audience enjoyed several nail biting matches. In all the matches players exhibited their skills and style with spikes and returns resulting in long rallies.
Tournament Organizers Shiv Peparthi & Prasad Mangina thanked all the teams for their participation and continued support in organizing this successful tournament and said the money raised will help lot of needy students in India. Ekta Daga & ShivaKumari (Throw ball) were specially acknowledged.
Speaking on the occasion Yashwanth Kudaravalli (BATA President) said he is extremely happy with the response and congratulated all the players for their dedication in support of noble cause.
Sirisha introduced BATA committee consisting of Harinath Chikoti (Vice President), Sumanth Pusuluri (Secretary), Kondal Rao (Treasurer) and Arun Reddy (Joint Secretary).
“Steering Committee” consisting Ravi Thiruveedula, Kamesh Malla, Kalyan Kattamuri & Sirisha Battula.
“Cultural Committee” includes Sridevi Pasupuleti, Srilu Veligeti & Taraka Deepti.
“Logistics Team” includes Prasant Chinta, Varun Mukka & Hari Sannidi.
BATA “Advisory Board” Jayaram Komati, Vijaya Aasuri, Veeru Vuppala, Prasad Mangina, Karun Veligeti & Ramesh Konda congratulated the team in making the tournament a grand success.
BATA Committee thanked all the volunteers for their support and efforts in organizing the tournament and ensuring all matches were conducted on time. BATA committee specially thanked all the sponsors for their continued support.
Kritika (ILP – Coordinator) thanked BATA for their support and said the money raised from this tournament will be spent towards providing free education to children in India. She also briefed about various projects ILP is currently doing in India.
Umakanth Uppalapati (Biryaniz), Rajani Kanth Kakarla (TANA Sports chair) and other local leaders attended the event.
BATA committee presented the check (proceeds from the tournament) to ILP.
