Deepavali, or Diwali or “the festival of lights”, as it is known to many, is a holiday that reminds us of days spent in India enjoying grand feasts and entertainment with family and friends as well as sweet memories of saving up allowances to buy the most sought after fireworks in the neighborhood for an evening ending in spectacular colors and a big bang!

The Telugu Association of Greater Boston (TAGB) has annually been able to revive these wonderful memories and create new ones during their grand Deepavali bash. This year the Deepavali Dhamaka was held at Nashua South High School on October 11, 2014 and was attended by over a 1000 people. The auditorium and school was filled with the chitter and chatter of ladies clad in the latest Indian fashions, the aroma of the food stalls provided by Udipi restaurant in Nashua, stalls of vendors with the latest inventory, and of course the beautiful decorations of goddess Mahalakshmi with fresh garlands of marigold flowers and diyas. Though no fireworks were lit that evening, it could be said (metaphorically) that the stage at Nashua South was “on fire”. Local talent painted the stage with beautiful performances, leaving the audience as awestruck as if they had seen fireworks illuminating in the sky.

Every year, TAGB’s cultural programs provide a platform for the young and old to display their many talents providing the community with a cornucopia of entertainment in the form of classical arts, modern music, drama, fashion shows, or film dances. As a community organization, TAGB also takes great pride in providing opportunities such as practice PSAT tests to youngsters as well as Sports Tournaments to encourage athletes to display their talent out on a court or field.

This year’s Deepavali bash couldn’t have been possible without Cultural Secretary Sri. Seetaram Amaravadi and his team. They were the backbones of pulling entertainment from all over the Greater Boston area and organizing the event in such a manner that every one of all ages and backgrounds could enjoy the show. MC’s for the evening, Smt. Sathya and Sri Madhu Parakala engaged the audience with their timely comments.

Hilarious comedy skit ‘Budugu’ by young kids in memory of Bapu & Ramana was admirable. The folk dance ‘Nagulo Nagamallelo’ by Greystone Nartaki’s entertained the audience and had them tapping their feet to the beat. Standup comedy was a new type of program and the attempt by Dr. Raj Rangaraju was well received by the viewers. The audience was wonderstruck by the unique padya natakam ‘Rayabharam’, a reenactment of the renowned Sri Krishna Rayabharam by Sai Vyas Balabhadrapathruni as Arjuna, Subramanyam karedla as Bheeshma, Ramana Duggiraju as Dhrutharashtra , Sudhakar Madala as Drona, Murty Parakala as Karna, Arun Mulpur as Duryodhana, Srinivas Pappu as Aswathama and Srinivas Balabhadrapathruni as Sri Krishna. This special performance made the audience time travel back into the ages of Dwapara yuga. The colorful costumes and sets were very close to reality and the imagination of many. The effort behind creating such a professional level production is applauded and appreciated by TAGB. During the evening, Ms. Latha Mangipudi, State Representative of New Hampshire, was felicitated for her continuing support and services for the Indian community in New Hampshire and the Greater Boston area. Guests enjoyed the Festive feast provided by Mayuri restaurant.

Grand finale of the evening was a musical event led by Boston’s very own nightingale Smt. Anuradha Palakurthi, a singer trained in both Carnatic and Hindustani classical music. Talented singers Sri Harsha and Dr. Valentino Almeida accompanied her to sing famous duets. The euphonious and harmonious voice of Smt. Anuradha Palakurthi captured different moods as she sung blockbuster Telugu hits like ‘Aha Na Pelliyanta’, ‘Masaka masaka cheekatilo’, ‘Sar Ochharu’, ‘Idi mallela velayani’ amongst many other favorites.

After the musical event the Indian National Anthem was sung by all and a vote of thanks was given by current TAGB secretary, Sri Chandra Talluri. Of course the evening wouldn’t have been complete without an appearance by the President; Sri Ram Gubbala who was happy to announce that this year is TAGB 30th anniversary, wished everyone a Happy Deepavali and thanked their continued support towards the organization. Kudos, to all the volunteers for their selfless support and kind help throughout every process of the event from planning to execution to cleaning up. TAGB definitely served Deepavali with great flair and finesse this year! Congratulations and Happy Deepavali to all!

గ్రేటర్ బోస్టన్ తెలుగు అసోసియేషన్ దీపావళి ధమాకా 2014

         దీపం వెలుగుకి, జ్ఞానానికి ప్రతీక. అటువంటి దీపాల పండుగ దీపావళి . ఈ సంవత్సరం  టి.ఎ.జి.బి  దీపావళి సంబరాలు అంగరంగ వైభవంగా అక్టోబర్ 11 , శనివారం 2014న నాషువా హైస్కూల్ ఆవరణలో జరిగాయి.

       చిన్నపిల్లల కోలాహలంతో , పెద్దల హడావిడితో , కళాకారుల ప్రతిభతో ఆవరణ దద్దరిల్లింది . వసంతశోభను తలదన్నే విధంగా చేసిన పూల , దీపాల అలంకరణలు , రకరకాల వస్తువులతో అలరారిన అంగళ్లు , వివాహ భోజనాన్ని మించిన వింతైన వంటకాలతో నషువ హైస్కూల్ మయసభను తలపించింది . భక్తులకు ఇష్టదేవత లక్ష్మీదేవి . శరన్నవరాత్రులను పూర్తిచేసుకొని కార్తీకంలో అడుగుపెడుతున్న తెలుగువారికి అన్నిటా శుభం కలగాలని ఆ మాత అభయ హస్తంతో స్వాగతం పలికింది .

  ఆబాలగోపాలాన్ని ఆకట్టుకునే ఎన్నో కార్యక్రమాలు . కాని అన్నిటా పరీక్షలు తప్పవు కదా  ముందుగా పిల్లలకు పి.సాట్  ‘మాదిరి ‘ పరీక్షతో కార్యక్రమం మొదలైంది . పరీక్షలతో అలసిన చిన్నారులు తమ క్రీడా విన్యాసాలతో చూపరులను అబ్బుర  పరచారు . తరువాత చిన్నారుల అసలైన సాంస్కృతిక కార్యక్రమాల వెల్లవ . ఒకదానితో ఒకటి పోటీపడుతూ తారాజువ్వలా , చిచ్చుబుడ్డిలా , సీమటపాకాయలా అన్ని కార్యక్రమాలు గొప్పగా పేలాయి .

        మన బాపూరమణలు అదే బుడుగు,సీగానపెసూనాంబల సృష్టి కర్తలు . వారితో మన స్నేహానికి గుర్తుగా , వారిని స్మరిస్తూ , వారి స్మృతికి  ‘ చంద్రునికో నూలు పోగులా ‘  ,  ‘పద్మజా బాల  ‘  గారు బాలల కోసం రూపొంచిన రూపకం ‘ బాల లహరి ‘ విద్యార్థులచే ప్రదర్శింప బడింది . అది ఆహుతుల హృదయాలను ఎంత గానో ఆకట్టుకొంది . తెలుగు వంట మరొకసారి ఘుమ ఘుమ లాడింది . జనపదుల పథం జానపదం. అటువంటి జానపద నృత్యం నాగులోనాగమల్లెలోయ్  ని తిలకించిన వారు పులకించారు .

        ఎంత చెప్పినా పాటల కందని మధురమైనది పద్యం . జంటకవులైన ‘ తిరుపతి వేంకటకవుల ‘ రచన ఆధారంగా శ్రీకృష్ణ రాయభార పద్యనాటకం ‘ హడ్రెడ్ వాలా లడీ ‘  లాగా ఆద్యంతమూ ఆసక్తిగా పేలింది .  ప్రతిపాత్ర కవిత్రయం దర్శకత్వం నుండి జాలువారినట్లుంది .

      అర్జునిడిగా  బలభద్రపాత్రుని సాయి వ్యాస్ ,భీష్మునిగా  కారెడ్ల సుబ్రహ్మణ్యం ,ధృతరాష్టృనిగా  దుగ్గరాజు రమణ , ద్రోణునిగా  మాదాల సుధాకర్  ,కర్ణునిగా   పరకాల మూర్తి  , అశ్వథ్థామగా  పప్పు శ్రీనివాస్  ,దుర్యోధనుడుగా   మూల్పూర్ అరుణ్  , శ్రీకృష్ణునిగా  బలభద్రపాత్రుని శ్రీనివాస్ ,   లు ఎంతో గొప్పగా పాత్రలో జీవించారు .  ‘అన్నగారిని’ జ్ఞప్తికి తెచ్చారు. ఈ నాటక ప్రదర్శనకు మూల సూత్రధారి ,  ‘సాంస్కృతిక కార్యదర్శి ‘ అమరవాది సీతారాం ‘ అభినందనీయుడు .

  ఆశ్వయుజంలో కూడా బోస్టన్ కోయిలలు రాగాలాలపిస్తాయట . దానికి సాక్ష్యం ‘ అనూరాధ పాలకుర్తిగారు ‘ . ఆమె  ’ అహనా పెళ్లంట ’ అంటూ మొదలుపెట్టి ,  ‘  మసక మసక చీకట్లు ‘ కమ్మేసాయన్నారు . అంతలో  ‘ ఇది మల్లెల వేళ ‘ ,  ‘ సారొచ్చారొచ్చారంటూ ‘  నవరసాలను తన గాత్రంలో పలికించి ప్రేక్షకులను పులకింపజేసారు . అనూరాధ గారికి గాత్రసహకారాన్ని అందించిన ‘ డా . వాలెంటినో ఆల్మిడా ‘ , ‘ శ్రీహర్ష శిష్టా ‘ ,  ‘ డా . రాజ్ రంగరాజు ‘ ప్రశంసపాత్రులు .

          వినోదాలకి తోడుగా పసందైన విందు భోజనాలను వేయి నోళ్ల పొగిడేటట్లు   ‘మయూరి ఫుడ్స్ ‘ , మరియు  ’ ఉడిపి నషువ ‘ వారు సంయుక్తంగా అతిధులకు అందించారు . ‘అన్నదాత సుఖీభవ ‘.

            సాంస్కృతిక కార్యక్రమాలకి ధ్వని ( ఆడియో )  సహకారం అందించటం కత్తి మీద సాము లాంటిది . దానిని సమర్ధవంతంగా నిర్వహించిన సురేందర్ గారికి ,  కార్యక్రమాలని సమన్వయపరుస్తూ, వ్యాఖ్యాతలుగా అందరి మనసులను దోచుకున్న  ఆదర్శజంట   మధు , సత్య పరకాల గారికి కృతజ్ఞతలు.

             తన బృందం సభ్యులందరికీ సలహా, సహాయ, సహకారాలను అందిస్తూ, అన్నిటా తానే అయి, అంతా మీరే అంటూ తన స్వాగత వచనాలతో ఉత్సాహంగా అందరినీ ముందుకు నడిపించిన టి.ఎ.జి.బి ప్రెసిడెంట్ ‘రామ్ గుబ్బల‘  గారు ఈ దీపావళి ఉత్సవాన్ని విజయవంతంగా నిర్వహించారు.

          దీపావళి ఉత్సవ కార్యక్రమాలలో పాల్గొన్న , రూపొందించిన , అన్ని విధాల సహాయ , సహకారాలను అందించిన బృందానికి జనరల్ సెక్రటరీ ‘ చంద్ర తాల్లూరి‘ గారు అభినందనలు తెలిపారు .

           చివరగా  జయహా భారతమాత  అంటూ  భారత జాతీయ గీతాలాపనతో కార్యక్రమాలకు ముగింపు పలికారు .
