It's time to analyze how Nuvve Kavali, the stupendous film of
year 2000, picked up and set the box office ablaze. Here is the
week by week info (from our cycle stand trade story archives).......
First
week:
Tarun, the son of actress of yesteryears Roja Ramani, made his
debut with Usha Kiron movie 'Nuvve Kavali'. Though this film got
a decent talk, the collections were mediocre as it's an Usha Kiron's
film. This film collection is expected to grow once the good talk
spreads.
Second
week:
Nuvve Kavali entered the second week with great aplomb. According
to the distributors, this film opened with average opening for
the first four days and picked up from fifth day onwards. In Guntur
area, this film opened with 85% collections and reached 100% by
seventh day. It has got all the ingradients of becoming another
'Chitram'.
Third
week:
But the real winner among the latest films is going to be Nuvve
Kavali by Usha Kiron movies that has Tarun as hero. The most potential
weapon and the best advertising media - word of mouth - is playing
the crucial role in the success of Nuvve Kavali. This point is
evident from the fact that the second week collections are marginally
increased compared to the first week collection (which are good
by any standards).
Fourth
week:
But the surprise winner is none but Nuvve Kavali, Tarun's debut
film as hero. Nuvve Kavali was released with 23 prints. In the
second week, Usha Kiron has produced another 4 prints to make
the count to 27. In third week, the count went to 35 prints. This
film is released in Hyderabad in 3 theaters in the first week
and theater count went to 8 theaters to the 4th week. In Guntur,
this film was released in Pallavi. And by the time it reached
4th week, Nuvve Kavali is exhibited in a second theater Harihara
Mahal. It collected a share of 5.96 lacs in 3 weeks. Industry
is aghast with the magnitude of success of this film and expecting
it to become a better grosser compared to Chitram. Dasari, an
archrival of Ramoji Rao, expressed an open admiration for the
success of the film Nuvve Kavali. The buzz among is Industry is
rife with euphoria that this film may become a super hit. To substantiate
this claim, the collections of third week are more than the collections
of second week in all centers.
Fifth
week:
Nuvve Kavali, just like any other Usha Kiron film, is racing to
become a super hit of the year. No hype. No frenzied announcements
by the producers. It is just showing the way by the real collections.
If you observe the collections, it's constantly attracting more
collections in the same theaters in Hyderabad and Vizag. It is
maintaining it's houseful streak in Vijayawada. In Hyderabad the
theater count went to 9 in its 5h week.
Sixth
week:
Meantime, Nuvve Kavali is making terrific business at the box
office. The collections of this film are on steady rise. They
have increased compared to last week. In all the areas the theaters
are almost running packed houses with the collections being 95%
to 100% of the maximum capacity.
Seventh
week:
Nuvve Kavali is continuing its collection spree even in its 7th
week. In Krishna Dist, it collected a share of 23 lacs for 50
days among the 4 theaters. Incidentally this film is going to
run for 100 days in Santhi Theater. Santhi Theater witnessed a
100 days film 8 and ½ years back. According to the experts,
this film will run for 100 days with all shows full by collecting
a share of 40 lacs in the city. In other centers too this film
is managing more than 95% theater filling.
100th
Day:
This film does not have a big hero in this film. Even then, Nuvve
Kavali created a tension at RTC crossroads on 100th day of the
film. After the houseful board was put up Odeon 70mm, the audiences
did not budge to the request of the management to try for the
next show. In stead, they forced the management to abandon the
show of 'Maa Annayya' and 'Vijayaramaraju' in Odeon Deluxe and
Mini Odeon to show Nuvve Kavali with a lag of 15 minutes from
theater to theatre simultaneously. For the first time in the history
of Odean complex, this rare film caused the tremors with an exceptional
performance.
According
to Sudhakar, the General Manager of Mayuri distributors, this
film will eventually become the biggest hit of the year 2000.
This film is maintaining 80% theater filling even after completing
100 days in most of the theatres. This film has a close resemblance
to the uncanny success of Rajasri's 'HAHK'. Like HAHK, this film
too released in a just 23 centers and then gradually the prints
count was increased to 100 from 23. This film completed 100 days
in all the 23 centers in was released and is also going to run
for 34 centers in the late run. This film was released in 3 theaters
in Hyderabad and the theater count went to 13 on it's 100th day,
though other mega films like Mrigaraju and Narasimha Naidu were
running packed houses in near by theaters.
