PADAHAARANALA TELUGU PILLA.. EKKADA???
By Prerna Rao

Teluginti pala samudram kani penchina koona
Sri hari inti deepam alle kanipinchina daana.

These lines from the song in murari picturized on sonali would have been even more besotting for vision and apt for relating had it been for a telugu girl instead. The song was a beauty and so was Sonali but the lines didn't seem right for her.I'm sure she even till date doesn't know what the lines truly mean.

I kept fiddling with the thought of writing on this for a very long time but never really got myself to pen my thoughts, over the past few weeks when I was idly going through the discussions in IBDB a few topics caught my attention especially in the heroines section.

U know threads like:
Who has the best smile in the Telugu industry/heroines?
Who looks the best?
And the likes….

Don't you think that there's a missing link somewhere, some sort of hunch when u look at topics of the sort. I fest uneasy as all the girls mentioned in the discussions were definitely beautiful and probably had talent too but none of them were Telugu girls at least most of them weren't.

Often when u look at movies nowadays u get to see gorgeous girls in skimpy outfits dancing like a dream but when they mouth dialogues they don't seem real not even close to being real. There's no lip sync at all whatsoever.

They have standard four or five expressions, which they keep playing and replaying every now and then and sometimes over and over again (if its an emotional scene).

The sensible ones of the lot sometimes reinvent the expressions and get the sync right after working hard…and yes they cry when they are supposed and smile when they are asked to which is a good thing as nowadays a few mix those two expressions too. Were they confused or is it all a joke for them?

U know actually sometimes I don't blame them on second thoughts we can't blame them at all. They aren't Telugu girls and most of them don't understand the language at all.

They do have all the essential qualities that maketh a heroine…good looks, nice smiles, flexible bodies and a few expressions, and the rest of the zatang element but, they miss that single feature that maketh a Telugu heroine…they aren't Telugu girls.

With an exception of laya and one or two others maybe there isn't one Telugu lass in the industry. When these girls dance to the melodies of Mani Sharma, beats of Devi Sri Prasad, or the folk spice of RP they understand nothing but the tunes.

Quite often they give the right expressions in the songs but what beats me is that how much do they really understand the beauties penned by Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry, or the dialogues written by the irrepressible paruchuri brothers.

The extremely talented Soundarya whom even ANR who constantly shows unhappiness over heroines of present day called teluginti adapaduchu is not a Telugu girl strange, kalyani whom even jeevi said looked like a padahaaranala Telugu pilla isn't Telugu girl after all. It's been indeed a very long time since we have had our girl in movies.

There was even a rumor after the nandi awards that the government was forced give Laya the award because she is the only Telugu actress in the industry right now.

Why aren't any Telugu girls coming forward? This question will lead to innumerable other questions and discussions but whatever the reasons be for not having a proper telugu speaking telugu girls for an actress be the result is that we have to put up a movie with a great hero and good music and decent direction with a gorgeous looking girl who is trying hard to act but just doesn't seem to be getting it right.

The Telugu movies are largely male dominated and therefore leave very little scope for the heroines to do anything much in the film but still it would a zillion times better watching our own girl.

Lots of people at home still associate the industry to some sort of down market trade, that could be one of the reasons why lots of people don't really come forward even if they have interest in the glam world, but the fact is that things have changed over the years and lots of educated people have been foraying into movies.

The few girls who do make the choice aren't given too much importance by the biggies in the industry who will despite having a talented lot of girls here will still run to Bombay for a new girl oops sorry yet another new girl who cant get it right.

Try giving the ones here a chance and u maybe very pleasantly surprised with their looks talent and yes language. Maybe someone sane soul will eventually one day bring in our girls into films till then ill still keep wondering.
Padahaaranala Telugu pilla ekkada.
