Interview with Aditya Babu
Date: May 19, 2010, Hyderabad
aditya babu

Aditya Babu who produced quality movies like Jagadam and Arya 2 in the past is making his debut as hero with Chalaki movie. Chalaki is releasing on 20 May. Here is the idlebrain.com exclusive interview with Aditya Babu -

How did you land up in movies?
I had wanted to become a hero since I was 8 years old. I am a diehard fan of Chiranjeevi and Kamal Hassan. I had a strong desire in my graduation to become hero and I wanted to learn about all crafts of filmmaking before becoming an actor. We started Aditya Arts banner and produced Jagadam and Arya2. I also produced a couple of movies (remakes of Bhadra and Ready) in Kannada as well. I learnt the know-how of filmmaking before acting in movies.

Did you get any formal training?
Yes. I got trained in Vizag Satyanand’s institute for six months. He trained actors like Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh and Prabhas in the past. I am an athlete since childhood. I play cricket and I won championship in long jump and high jump. I practiced martial arts, aerobics and gymnastics in the past 10 years. I am doing dance practice for the past two and half years.

Why did you choose Chalaki as a launch pad?
I have no background and people watch the movie only if it’s good. Hence story is very important for me. I loved the idea of a guy joining a women’s college due to certain constraints. There is lot of comedy and entertainment generated out of it. This movie is a remake of a Malayalam blockbuster called ‘Chocolate’. We adapted the basic story idea and did 70% changes to the original script. It will have five nice songs and good commercial elements.

What is the reason for taking Madesh as director?
Madesh is basically a Telugu guy who migrated to Karnataka. He started his career working for bilingual and trilingual films. Our Kannada remakes of Bhadra and Ready were directed by him. He is good at doing remakes and he is a nice director to work with. I like his attitude.

You produced big budgeted movies with a big director like Sukumar. Why did you choose a new Telugu director for your debut?
I am a debutant and big directors might work for money. But they surely wouldn’t be confident of my talent. I wanted to prove myself as an actor first before approaching big directors. All the big directors were small directors once. All these directors are going after big stars after becoming big directors. Only Teja and Sekhar Kammula are exception in that big league.

Tell us about female leads Roma and Bianca Desai?
Roma is a veteran heroine in Malayalam and she acted in 15 films and won 5 state awards. It is a performance oriented role and she did in original movie too. Bianca Desai is doing a special character in this movie as a NRI who returns to India. Her name is Jnana Prasunamba and she would be speaking in pristine Telugu (granghikam). She is an added fun element for the movie.

What do you think are your strengths as an actor?
Comedy timing.

What are your favourite movies?
My favourite moves in the past few years were Kushi, NVNV, Idiot, Okkadu and Arya.

What kind of movies you want to do in future?
I would like to do college going hero in my future projects. There are no heroes in Telugu now who do college-going roles as every one of them are opting for mass films and action stories. We had only two college-oriented movies like Jalsa and Happy Days in the past three years. Jalsa was the only college-student role Pawan Kalyan has done after Kushi movie.

What are your future projects?
The composition of my next movie as an actor will depend on the feedback I get for my performance in Chalaki. As a producer I have a commitment each from Sukumar, Prabhas and Ravi Teja.
