Venky is on roll with two successive hits Lakshmi and Adavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule. His latest film Tulasi is releasing on 12 October. Venky met the scribes on this eve today after. Here are the excerpts of chitchat -
Tell us about Tulasi film?
Tulasi is a family entertaining emotional drama. After Lakshmi and AMAV, this film will be the right one with the right mix of all ingredients. The film starts off with youthful romance, then there is sentiment followed by action. The last two reels consists of sentiment and action elements.
This film has pleasant music numbers. The picturization of songs is pleasant and neat. Editing is good. Locations are fresh.
What will be the commercial outcome of Tulasi?
It will be a minimum guarantee commercial film. Audience will be happy with the package we provide.
Why are your titles becoming feminine for the past three films (Lakshmi, Adavari… & Tulasi)?
It’s just a coincidence. All these three titles brim positive energy.
Tell us about Tulasi character?
I am doing the role of Tulasiram. He is silent guy but has a violent streak running in him. He is silent, yet violent. He has the background of Palnadu. By profession, he is an architect.
Don’t you think this kind of storyline is similar to that of Narasimha Naidu?
You may call it a touch and go Narasimha Naidu kind of film.
What is new in Tulasi?
It is the right film after AMAV. There is more drama, more romance and kid sentiment. The kid sentiment is going be very special in this film. We shared a very good screen chemistry as the actor Atulit is of my son’s age.
Tell us about the director Boyapati Srinu?
I knew him since the days he worked for my film Pavitra Bandham. He narrated his first script to me, but it did not work out. Now he came up with Tulasi subject. Tulasi is the result of a team work.
About Nayana Tara?
She did a role where she has to be youthful and mature at the same time.
About Devi Sri Prasad?
I knew him since he was a kid. He gave good music. And the background score will be even better.
Is ‘sympathy’ factor there in this film like your earlier films. Or there will be lot of heroism because it’s a mass film?
My kind of ‘sympathy’ factor is there in this film. I have to make people cry (giggle!) for 4-5 times in my films.
When are you going to do big budget films?
I am a budget-conscious actor. I want to leave something on the table for the producer. If I go for huge budgeted films, it will become a risky proposition for the producer.
Are you happy with the roles you are doing these days?
I am capable of doing much better work. But honestly speaking, I am not getting any committed director coming to me with a challenging script. I wanted to do a female role for a film titled ‘Professor Parvathamma’. But I dropped that idea after I saw Vikram’s photo shoot as woman in ‘Mallanna’ promo.
Did you screen test yourself for that lady character?
Yes. And I think I have in it for me to play female character. I can freak out as a woman.
RaNa (elder son of Suresh babu) is going to be launched as hero soon. What is your comment?
It’s too early to comment about it.
How is your pursuit of spirituality going on?
I surrended myself to spirituality. My true self has taken over me.
What is your next film?
We have not finalized it yet!
