Open
letter to VV Vinayak
I
wish you a happy and most successful New Year. I am a Management
Professional and an ardent movie lover. I am writing this
open letter to you to share my views with you on your forth-coming
film Samba with NTR in the lead. As you are aware, Andhrawala
was released surrounded by great expectations and it disappointed
innumerable fans of NTR. I had personally seen people, who
love and admire NTR, especially the youth, were literally
in tears after knowing that Andhrawala failed at the Box-office.
On the eve of New Year's Day it was, indeed, a great disappointment
and unpleasantness for them. The reasons for the failure are
many and I do not want to dwell on them.
Against
this back drop I would like to make a few suggestions to you
with respect your on going project SAMBA. I hope you will
take them in their right perspective and try to implement
if found possible.
1.
The title indicates that it is going to be a mass movie with
many action sequences. As you appreciate, only action sequences
cannot make a movie successful even if it were to be NTR's.
This has been proved beyond an iota doubt in the recent past.
The movie should be a sweet blend of action, sentiment, romance,
hummer and heart touching emotions coupled with excellent
script work and screenplay. Only then, it will arrest the
attention of the audience. If all these elements are there,
the image of NTR will certainly take the movie to dizzy heights.
2. Please ensure that the comedy department is properly taken
care of. The comedy scenes should be evenly spread in the
first half and second half. This will sustain the interest
of audience in the movie. If you load all comedy scenes in
the first half and make the second half serious and heavy,
the movie is bound to suffer.
3. As regards songs department, you have to make a conscientious
effort to make them decent while they could be "Mass"
oriented. You should ensure that all sections of the audience
like the songs. Take the case of Adavi Ramudu, the songs of
the movie are still very popular. They also have a mass touch
but every one likes those songs. Go for the writers like Veturi,
S.S.Sastry and Chandrabose. They should be able to give you
class songs with a perfect mass touch.
4. Please ensure that some songs are shot outdoors. If all
the songs are Set Songs, it will create a sense of monotony
in the minds of the audience. This is the observation I made
after talking to various people.
5. Of late, it has become a sort of habit with the directors
and producers to cast all big supporting actors and not giving
them the proper characters and underutilizing or rather not
utilizing at all their talent. This certainly does not augur
well for success of the movie. This will become a negative
point and will be highlighted in the reviews. I hope you agree
with me. As a creative director you will, of course, not allow
such things to happen in your movie. I hope you will make
it a point and ensure that all the artists get some role to
avoid the feeling that the movie is a one man show. And last
but not the least,
6. Please ensure that there is no hype built up for the movie
by conducting audio function in such a grand style as it was
done in the case of Andhrawala. It is bound to damage the
result of the movie. Pre-release functions and razzmatazz
will only contribute to negative results. After all, NTR's
movie does not require any pre-release hype or publicity.
Once positive talk is established after the release of the
movie you may go to any extent of publicity to make the movie
stronger.
I have made these suggestions only to reinforce the feelings
of those who admire NTR. It is very clear now that millions
of NTR fans and admirers are looking up to you with great
expectations that you will deliver a Mega Hit in the form
SAMBA. I sincerely hope that you will certainly be successful
and will not disappoint them.
Thanking
you.
Yours
truly,
Malladi K.S.Pathy
