Roars Chiru in Tollywood's biggest ever hit to date, INDRA. Chiru, after a gap of 9 months starred in his only movie of the year 2002. INDRA had a storyline of how a powerful SEEMA leader leaves SEEMA for the welfare of his people, turns into a taxi driver and what makes him return to his SEEMA again. He portrays the dual role of Shankar Narayana and Indrasena Reddy. As Shankar Narayana, where he acts as a taxi driver cum guide, he displays subtle emotions and balanced mannerisms with an undercurrent of comedy and sentiment. In the role of SEEMA leader INDRASENA REDDY, the Megastar outperforms everybody. His electrified dialogue delivery coupled with dignified mannerisms added grace to the role. The role had an undercurrent of responsibility and sacrifice. All the technical departments added to the success of the movie, but it was the dance department that probably outclassed every other department. Chiru's terrific dances in Dayi Dayi Damma and Bham Bham Bhole were a result of that. The Telugu viewers blessed Chiru with the biggest ever hit and crowned him as the "HERO OF THE YEAR 2002". With his dream project ANJI under the wraps and other exciting projects, it remains to be same how the tollywood viewers rate Chiru in the coming year.

BALAKRISHNA:

The best dialogue teller of Telugu movies, Nandamuri Balakrishna was adorned with the title "Natasimha" this year, a title that he richly deserves for his outstanding contribution to tollywood. Balayya started this year with SEEMA SIMHAM in which he portrays the role of Durga Prasad, an IPS officer. The movie showed Balayya in two shades, a contract killer and a sincere police officer. Balayya convincingly portrayed both the roles with ease. His Telangana diction was equally good and was well received by the audience, "atla chesthe thatha yadikosthadu bidda" being one of them. After Seemasimham, Balayya starred in ChennaKeshavaReddy, a SEEMA story wherein Balayya plays double role of ChennaKeshavaReddy, a SEEMA leader and Bharat, a sincere police officer. Balayya excelled in sentiment scenes like the scenes where he speaks about the significance of a wife in a person's life and in those patented ferocious fights. This year Balayya could not get an industry hit like he has been getting in the past years, but with projects with veteran director like B.Gopal and paruchuri brothers it remains to be seen how the next year will turn to be for him.

SRIKANTH:

Srikanth, a guy from a small village called basavapatnam near gangavathi in karnataka started in tollywood as a villain, then slowly co-starred with other heroes, then became a medium range average hero working with successful directors and now in the year 2002 emerged as one of the senior heroes of tollywood. Srikanth starred in the movies O Chinadana, Aaduthu Paduthu, Tappuchesi Pappukoodu and Khadgam. In the first three movies, Srikanth's characters were mostly comedy based. In OC, he portrays the role of Narasimha, a street guy who is asked to act as a rich girl's lover. The role was a cakewalk for him; he was particularly impressive in the comedy scenes between Asha Shiny, brahmandam and the heroine. In A-P, he dons the role of a bus driver aiming to convert that into a mobile canteen wherein he accidentally runs into a banjara girl and how he manages to win her forms the storyline. Srikanth's character had a touch of comedy and sentiment in this movie. In TP, he co-starred with Mohan babu as Kuppigantula Ramesh. His neat and patent comedy combined with his apt expressions brought grace to the role. The scenes involving him, Bharani, Gracy and Mohanbabu were the highlight of the movie. After that came the character in Khadgam, one of the best characters he ever played. The greatness of an actor lies in displaying his feelings through his expressions and emotions. Srikanth excels in the role of Radhakrishna, a cop who looses his fiancee in the midst of a terrorist encounter and develops hatred towards the terrorists. The character had less to talk, more to act and Srikanth did it with e'lan. His serious expressions, talking with his eyes, balanced emotions and dignified gestures made the audience believe that he was the only person who could do that role and the director Krishnavamshi rightly selected him for that role. The scene wherein he chases the terrorist, the cricket match scenes are some of the scenes that show the brilliance of the actor. Srikanth said in many interviews, that it is his dream to act in a mass role like what his favorite chiru did in the movie Khaidi. Hope in the next year, Srikanth gets his dream role and does more of movies that bring greater glory to him and tollywood.

NAGARJUNA:

Yuvasamrat Nagarjuna entered the year 2002 with Santosham, a movie directed by debutant Dasharath. In this movie, Nagarjuna acts as a person who elopes with a girl coming from a rich traditional family. He looses his wife in an accident and comes to his in-laws house on receiving an invitation about his wife's cousin's marriage. How the other cousin falls in love with him and how they have a happy ending forms the story of the movie. Nagarjuna portrayed the role very well and looked very fresh in this movie. The songs, locations and the direction were all good. After Santosham, Nagarjuna starred in Manmadhudu co-starring with Sonali and Anshu. The movie is a sure blockbuster with witty dialogues and tight screenplay taking the centerstage again. Nagarjuna came back with a bang this year, let's hope he keeps this tempo in the next year too.

VENKATESH:

Victory Venkatesh starred in the movies Vasu and Gemini this year. In Vasu, he donned the role of a guy whose life is music but often has to concentrate on becoming an IPS officer on his father's insistence. The movie had some good comedy especially in the first half amongst Venky and his friends. Harris Jayaraj's music was good too. Then came Gemini, a story of a street goon who falls in love with a Marwari girl, joins night college, leaves goondaism on the insistence of the Police Commisioner and finally manages to get the goon killed by his cleverness. In this movie, Gemini had different mannerisms to show to the audience. This year Venky's movies were not that successful, hope the next year would bring him better hits.

This year also saw the emergence of some character heroes as heroes in the form of Raviteja (AVI and Idiot). With elections to the AP assembly not that far away and the inexplicable connection between the filmland and politics, it would not be unfair to predict that the dialogue writers could constantly refer to that in our Telugu movies, but which hero's movie will have those?? We've got to wait and see for that. Idlebrain.com wishes all our heroes the very best in the coming year.
