Interview with Vishnu Manchu
Date: February 9, 2011, Hyderabad
vishnu manchu

Vishnu Manchu got a big break with Dhee film, but he couldn’t follow Dhee up with entertaining movies. He has choosen an entertaining subject and acting in and producing his latest film ‘Vastadu Naa Raju’. VNR is all set to release on 11 February with many prints and huge publicity. Here are the excepts of idlebrain.com interview with Vishnu Manchu -

You are looking completely different in this movie compared to your earlier movies. What is the secret?
If there is any credit to my look it should go to the love of my life Vini. She is the one who dressed me up for this movie. Apart from the clothes, the look was basically locked by the director and me. I am glad you have said its good and I hope it works out in the film.

What is the reason for producing this movie on a new banner?
24 Frames Factory is my baby. I had produced many successful programs and serials under this banner and this is its first major film. I don't think I will be working in Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures in the near future. After the success of VNR, I shall explain everything in detail. I will be producing movies with other actors in this banner also. Very soon you will hear more news on this front.

What went wrong with your last movie Saleem?
You should ask me 'what went right with Saleem?' Right from the end of the first schedule, I knew there was something terribly wrong with this movie. The reason i felt so is because, it was always a tension filled shoot. I was in charge of the production and Hero of that film; I never enjoyed one day shooting for that film. I should have walked away from that movie during the second schedule; my father didnt like the movie, he refused to play the role he did in that movie but we had to force him to do that role; I feel so angry on myself for having let him down.

Saleem is a perfect example on how not to make a movie. It is an mistake which new producers can make but not a person like me who was born in this film industry and having a established production house. I am to blame.

Tell us about how VNR project got materialized?
I have to thank writer BVS Ravi for recommending director Hemanth Madukar to consider me for this movie. I was shooting for Saleem when they approached me with the script. I loved it in the first hearing and decided that its going to be my next movie.

VNR is the first Telugu movie that is entirely shot with digital camera. How is the output and what do you think is the future of digital cinema in our industry?
The output of VNR had come out extremely well. If you are going to watch it in digital projection it will be far superior than normal movies. In regular theaters you will barely notice a difference from the regular movies. The future is Digital. Maybe in the next 2 years 90% of the films will be made in digital cameras. you cannot stop change and the pace its going now, its amazing.

I had to wait 6 months to find a DP who will do this movie with the RED camera. I had bought three RED cameras during the beginning of 'Saleem' but the then cameraman Ramprasad refused to shoot in RED because he said he didn't trust digital. After him I asked half a dozen cameramen to handle RED everyone were scared but finally the senior most and the one of the best Cameraman Mr.Gopal Reddy accepted to shoot it in RED. Once he was done with "jhummandhi Nadam' he joined in to shoot VNR. Special thanks to him.

Many directors and producers have enquired about the process and quality of RED; VNR will be the result and I am sure many will start shooting digitally after this movie. I had shot an entire chase with a canon 5D camera; its generally a photo camera but we used it to shoot and the team of my post production company 'ThinkSmart' should get the entire credit for handling the digital flow with ease. Now we are consulting and renting out cameras for other shoots!

You have followed a carefully designed strategy with publicity of the film (like having a couple of designs the way Hollywood productions houses have)?
Publicity with just 3 designs was was not accepted by many people when I proposed but I have to thank my director in believing in my strategy. You will notice than many big brands dont have 10 different designs, they have just one or two designs and advertise everywhere with those. It makes you easily identify the brands; hence we decided to promote VNR as a brand hence this strategy.

Tell us about the highlights of VNR?
This is a romantic comedy and you will have a fun filled 2.30 hours. I am 100% sure you will laugh out loud and towards the end VNR will move your hearts. It is a movie I should have done after 'Dhee'. Songs by Mani Sharma are superb and the way every song was pictured very nice too. Bhramanadam uncle and our combination would be talked about again. He is no doubt the king of comedy now!

On a personal front, which status do you prefer? single or married? why?
Hahahahaa! Me and Vini are still in the dating phase; it has not sunken into me that I am married now! To answer your question, I would prefer my married status; for two reasons. One because it is amazing to know that other than your mother someone can love you more than their life and second, Vini will surely be reading this interview; I dont want to mess with her, GV.
