Poem
on Ugaadi by Srinivas Kanchibhotla
Festivals as these aren't mere festivals that pertain only to one culture, one people, one region and religion. They aren't burdened by the mythological or cultural references. Ugaadi applies to the populace as a whole, symbolizing a new beginning, a dawn of a new outlook, in the turning of the leaves, changing of the colors, sporting of a new look and gaining of a new spring in the step - all signifying the sense of eternal optimism, a collective will to look forward to a new tomorrow - the building blocks of survival.
