Story

Vasu (Vishal) is a small time financier in a mass area. Singanna (Mukesh Tiwari) is a baddie who arranges contract killings. A cop (Satyaraj) is on special duty to convict Singanna. Divya (Shruti Haasan) is a good hearted girl who gets impressed by the morals and personality of Vasu. The family of Vasu faces a problem. The story of Pooja is all about the conflict between Vasu’s family and Singanna and how Vasu resolves it.

Artists Performance

Actors: Vishal is impressive as the guy who go to any extent to protect his family. The acrobatic fights look believable, because of his tall masculine body. He is excellent with expressions. Shruti Haasan is very glamorous and suited the role well. Mukesh Tiwari is good as villain. Satyaraj plays a special role convincingly. Soori is entertaining as buddy of hero. This film has reasonable casting in the form of Radhika, Sitara, Kausalya, Jayaprakash, Thalaivasal Vijay, Pratap Pothan etc. Andrea Jeremiah did an item song.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Pooja is a action drama between a good guy and a baddie. Director Hari who is known for churning out commercial films made sure that he has stuck with the basics and delivered a decent action entertainer. The narration is pacy and there are ample action sequences for masses. There is a good family drama too.

Other departments: Songs and background score by Yuvan Shankar Raja is pretty good. Devatha song shot in Swiss is stylishly picturized. Yethesukupo song is also good. Cinematography by Priyan is nice (he is a regular cinematographer for Hari’s movies). Dialogues are alright. Editing is fine. Production values by the actor Vishal are good.



Analysis: Vishal’s films have not been doing well in Telugu in the past few years. Pooja will come as a breather to Vishal as this film is a decently executed mass film with enough commercial elements. Plus points of the film are Vishal, direction and commercial elements. Being the solo big release for Diwali festival, Pooja has chances to become a hit like Pandem Kodi in Telugu career of Vishal.
