is proudly announcing a series of articles on the evolution
of Telugu movie theatres from 1921 to the current date. Mr.
Vijaya Bhaskar, an ardent fan of Telugu movies, provides
the content in these articles. We have chosen this time period,
as we believe this is a highly significant period in the history
of Telugu cinema. It was the period that saw the rising of
the first generation stars like NTR, ANR etc. Each article
will cover a theatre and the successful movies run information
and box office fate at those theatres.
                   Reminiscence
                    of Venkatesa70mm, Hyderabad
                   Venkatesa
70MM is one of the most reputed theaters of Hyderabad,
which had many super hits to its credit for over two decades
witnessing a legion of super hits. Started with Akkineni Nageswara
Rao's film Jai Jawaan in February 1970, it had created
many milestones among 70 mm theaters as far as Telugu film
running are concerned. Some examples are:

                    1. The
first direct 50 days Telugu film in a 70mm theater in Andhra
Pradesh is Dashing hero Krishna's daring cowboy film "Mosagallaku
Mosagadu" (1971).2. The first direct 100 days Telugu film in a 70mm theater
in Andhra Pradesh is He-Man Shobhan's mythological classic
                      "Sampoorna Ramayanam"(1972).
 3. The first direct 175 days Telugu film in a 70mm theater
in Andhra Pradesh is Legend NTR's sensational super hit
                      film "Adavi Ramudu" (1977).
 4. The
highest running for a White&Black Telugu film in a 70mm
theater (98 days) in Andhra Pradesh is He-Man Shobhan's
award winning film "Kaalam Maarindi" (1972)
 5. Dr.
NTR's Adavi ramudu was houseful for 47 days and that
was a record for a long time in Hyderabad. This film collected
12.5 lakhs rupees in this theater in its total run. No other
film prior to that collected at least half of that amount.
This is the first Telugu film to collect one million rupees
                      in a single theater.

this theater has hits of all heroes and even small films also,
this theater proved very lucky for He-Man Shobhan almost
whenever his films were released in this theater. He-Man Shobhan
has created many 70mm state records in Hyderabad Venkatesa
                    70mm. Some of them are:
                    1. Total
number of releases - 332. Number of films which had minimum respectable run - 30
 3. All 25-color films, which were released in Venkatesa
70 mm, had minimum respectable run, which is a record for
any hero in any 70mm theater throughout the state.
 4. Number of films which had a 49-day run - 20
 5. He-Man has one white and black film (Kaalam Maarindi)
and one color film (Sampoorna Ramayanam) both of which had
98 days run in a single 70 mm theater that too in a single
year (Venkatesa 70mm in 1972). No other hero had, at least,
60 days in a single 70mm theater even in different years
                      also.
 6. Before Slab, He-Man is the only hero to have 16 direct
50 days (no other hero has half of that number throughout
the state in a single 70mm theater).
 7. Before Slab and during Slab, He-Man is the only hero
to have 113 days direct running (Before Slab Khaidi Babayi
                      - 125 days; During Slab - Illalu-Priyuralu - 113 days).
