60th birthday of Dasari Narayana Rao was celebrated by his well wishers at the residence of Dasari on the morning of 4th May. Lots of celebrities graced this occasion to greet Dasari.

In a press meet held Dasari said, “I celebrated birthday for the first time in 1975 on the insistence of producers. Since then I have been celebrating my birthday every year at my residence. I started my career as stage artist at the age of 10. For the past 40 years, I had been serving Telugu film industry as a director, actor and technician. This is my 60th year (sashtipoorthi). I never had any goals in my life, I took the challenges up as they came. I am grateful to Telugu film industry”

Dasari had a brief question answer section. Here are the excerpts –

Will you direct films now?
I want to direct. But it is not possible as I am holding an important portfolio in the center.

About politics?
I had been a great supporter for Congress for a long time. My entry into politics is not a preplanned one. Sonia Gandhi invited me into politics by offering Rajya Sabha MP seat.

What is your take on young directors?
There are lots of talented Telugu young directors coming up. I was disappointed with last year’s performance of Telugu film industry. But this year, it is a different story. New directors are coming up with good taking style. The technique improved a lot. But they should be able to control budget, number of working days and negative exposure.

Lots of directors these days are interested in making fast bucks. They should plan long run and focus on longevity aspect.

Tell us about the heroes you worked with?
I had the opportunity to work with Sivaji Ganesan, NTR, ANR to present generation heroes. I feel that NTR and ANR are the most disciplined actors and that is the main reason why I made so many films with them.
