Poem
on Srirama Navami by Srinivas Kanchibhotla
History is written in hindsight. Particularly when it comes to mythology, the actions that trigger events of cataclysmic nature which in turn usher good times, are viewed by history in a different light, compared to how they were judged at the time of happening. Take the case of Mandara, the servant maid to Kaikeyi, who instigated her boss into getting her wishes fulfilled in the form of exile to Sri Rama. As the story goes, this singular incident finally culminated in the slaying of Ravana. So how does history/mythology view Mandara? Is she a cunning person who couldn't hide her jealousy for Kaikeyi's relationship to Rama vis-a-vis Bharata, or is she a blessed one who took upon the thankless task to get the ball rolling? An apt comparison would be to the status of Judas in Christianity, who had to betray Jesus and finger him for the Roman soldiers for crucifixion.
