Review

Story
Krishna Das (Vishwak Sen) is an orphan and works as a waiter in a star hotel. He visits the same hotel as a customer to have an experience. He falls in love with a girl Keerthi (Nivetha Pethuraj) who also visits the same bar in that star hotel. They hit off well. He pretends to be a rich guy and shows off to Keerthi with a swanky car. He is also forced to steal the identity of the car owner Sanjay. Later when things go wrong, he is approached by an elder (Rao Ramesh) to act as Sanjay who happens to be his doppleganger. Rest of the story is all about what happens when Das started acting like a pharmaceutical company's CEO Sanjay.

Artists Performance

Vishwak Sen is a natural actor. He has the knack of slipping into the skin of the character be it positive or negative. He has played two roles in this film. There is not much to differentiate between looks, but he has made sure that he has shown the required variation through expressions. Nivetha Pethuraj plays her part well. Rao Ramesh is good. Rohini gets a wheel-chair role and she is impressive. Hyper Aadi is getting better from film to film and his punches are working well with the crowds. Akshara Gowda fits the bill as the lady boss of Das. Mahesh Achanta is good.

Story - screenplay - direction: It’s a story that has a lot of potential at the box office because of the twists in the second half. But a script like this needs a versatile actor and Vishwak Sen did complete justice. Screenplay of the film is fine. Because of the screenplay and Vishwak’s performance, this movie worked. Direction of the film is partly okay.  The first half takes the route of Rowdy Alludu where a poor guy enters into the place of a wealthy guy. However there is a twist. The poor guy is not a street smart guy, but an emotional one who looks out for a family connection rather than making some money by cheating. The climax of the film sets up the stage for a sequel. The twists in the second half are good, but the director couldn't stage them well.

Other departments: Songs scored by Leon James are good (especially Almost Padipoyinde Pilla and Mawa Bro). Background music is also fine. Cinematography by Dinesh K Babu is alright. Art direction by A Ramanjaneyulu is smart (mostly used Westin Hotel for the first half and a Thailand mansion (?) with gold-coloured interiors for Sanjay's house. Editing by Anwar Ali is decent. Production values by Karate Raju are good.

Analysis: Das Ka Dhamki is a dual-role-play between two contrasting characters. Plus points are Vishwak Sen’s performance and twists in the second half. Interval has an intriguing bang. On the flipside, we expect a solid writing for these kinds of 2nd halves. On a whole, Das Ka Dhamki has a potential script, but wasn’t executed to the fullest and ends up leaving us wanting more. However, there is enough meat for the movie lovers.
