Story
Siddhardh aka Sid (Ranabir Kapoor) is an youngster who is on the verge of completing graduation. He is the son of billionaire industrialist. His father wants him to join in his company. But Sid is a lazy guy who caught up with his own world. During his graduation farewell party he meets Aisha (Konkana Sen Sharma) who comes from another city in search of job. She is seven years elder to him. They become thick friends. When Sid fails in the final year, his father scolds him. Sid leaves his home and starts staying in Aisha's place. The rest of the story is all about how he overcome's the laziness and straightens his life to become independent.
Actors:
Ranabir Kapoor is just perfect in the role of a spoilt brat. He projected the much needed innocence and child-like attitude. He enlivened the character. Konkana Sen Sharma never looked so gorgeous in her earlier movies. Anupam Kher gives another great performance as the strict father of Sid. Supriya Pathak is neat as hero's mother. Rahul Khanna does another cameo convincingly. All other actors did well (especially the plump girl who did the role of Lakshmi).
Technical departments:
Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie is genuine. It is about the innocence and childishness of the kids who are excessively pampered by parents. It is about a person realizing the importance of being independent and achieving it. The debutant director Ayan Mukherjee takes the route of Farhan Akthar in tapping the sensibilities of affluent youth who virtually have everything at their disposal. Ayan captured the fun and recklessness of youth and the feelings of parents who want to reach out to their kids. Characterizations are excellent. You end up falling in love with Sid character despite of all the stupidity in him. Direction is very good and screenplay is interesting. Except for a few dull moments and the characterization of hero's mother, there is nothing to complain about the ability of the director.
Other technical departments: Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is great. The tunes and background music are in sync with the theme of the movie. Cinematography by Anil Mehta is perfect. Art direction deserves an applause. Editing is smooth. Dialogues by Niranjan Iyengar are sensible. Producer Karan Johar should be commended for encouraging the talented youngster.
Analysis: First half of the film is short and sweet. Second half is bit lengthy and meanders towards climax. Plus points of the movie are characterizations and direction. The negative point is the slowness towards climax. Wake Up Sid is a mature film about childishness of spoilt rich youth. This film belongs to the genre of Dil Chahtah Hai and Rock On. I recommend it to everybody who want to watch mature movies on the vices of adulthood.
