Poem
on Vinayaka Chaviti by Srinivas Kanchibhotla
From among the lineup of the illustrious Gods, Vinayaka stands different - a simpleton, short, stout and slow. He doesn't seem to have the agility and swiftness, his brother possesses, yet he always seems to find the upper hand. Leading a near ascetic life, sans the glitz and accompaniments that come along with his position as the son of an important God, he emulates his father's lifestyle in thought and action. Never in the revered texts is he described as a high maintenance God, leading a low, simple and a normal life. His life is fraught with dangers and obstacles right from his birth, and in overcoming, conquering and mastering every single one of those through his wit, devotion and patience, he fittingly became the Vighna (obstacles) adhipathi (Lord).
