mahesh babu

Mahesh Babu has met the scribes at the house set in Rama Naidu Cine Village, Nanakram Guda today morning. He is shooting for 14-Reels film in the direction of Sukumar. He spoke freely about the success of SVSC and many other issues. Here are excerpts of the interview -

How SVSC happened
Srikanth Addala has come to me during the shooting of Dookudu and gave a 20-minute narration of SVSC. It is been a while a family-centric film has come in Telugu and I gave a go-ahead.

I am going through the best phase of my career. Doing three radically different scripts at a stretch (Dookudu, Businessman and SVSC) is blissful. While I was doing SVSC, I thought that it will become a good film. It has become a big hit, by the God’s grace. It’s a sensible and meaningful cinema. We have played the characters and there is no heroism is attached to the character. During the start of the project we (Me, Venkatsh and Prakash Raj) have decided to forget who we are and surrender ourselves to the director.

I had to unlearn for SVSC
I had to unlearn to do SVSC. Since I had done hero-centric films in the past, I have certain things embedded in my body language, diction, expression and walking style. I had to giveaway what I had learnt to act as a star and start afresh as a normal guy in SVSC.

There is lot of Srikanth Addala in my SVSC character
I have got a lot of compliments for my dialect of Godari. The entire credit should go to Srikanth Addala. That is how he speaks. I just had to follow him. The body language of mine in this film too is similar to that of Srikanth. I feel that most of my character in SVSC is very similar to the real life character of Srikanth Addala. I feel that some of his real life experiences might be incorporated in the film as well.

Interview scene is my favorite
My favorite scene in the film is the interview scene. I had to give a genuine smile. I don’t get it right in the first as my character has fake smile. The interviewers decide it as fake though I gave a genuine smile in the last attempt. It’s a complex scene to do.

SVSC is a multi-actor film, not a multi-starrer
I don’t want people to call SVSC as multi-starrer. I would prefer it to be called multi-actor film. If we call multi-starrer, it gives credit to only two heroes. I feel that all the characters in this film (especially Prakash Raj, Jayasudha and Anjali) have given superb performances. All the actors in this film should be credited.

SVSC is first film for Gowtam in theater
This is the first film in theater for my son Gowtam. He is very excited. He has immensely loved the film as it is a pleasant film without any stunts etc.

You can only feel the brotherly bond - unexplainable
Lot of people asks me about my relationship with my brother Ramesh. I share a very close bond with Ramesh. It’s something that can only be felt, but can’t be explained. I have maintained the same kind of feel while doing brother character in SVSC

Dil Raju’s is help not interference
Producer Dil Raju has complete knowledge about cinema. His involvement in the film has helped SVSC. If somebody without knowledge involves in filmmaking, it would be called interference.

Open to do multistarrer with peers
I am open to do multi-starrers with my peer actors. A director has to approach me and excite me with the script.

Very thankful to USA fans
I am very thankful to USA Telugu movie lovers. They have showered love to all my movies. A film like Khaleja did extremely well in USA. SVSC has crossed Dookudu collections in USA. I am very thankful to my fans who supported a sensible film like SVSC.

Alluri Seeta Ramaraju is all time favorite
Alluri Seeta Ramaraju is my most favorite film. I can only quote his films as I grew up watching dad’s films.

I am against remakes
I will not do any remakes. There is no interest left when we do a film that is already released. I don’t get excited to do remakes. I think shooting will be boring for me if I act in remakes.

Joy is dad’s face
I love watching the joy in my dad’s face whenever my film becomes a big hit. My joy knows no limits when my father is happy about box office result of my latest release.

Blockbusters expand market exponentially
I am fortunate to have the right films released at the right time. I don’t agree to the statement that I alone am responsible. The stamina of industry keeps growing as we get industry hits. Pokiri increased the market. Later Magadheera did it. Then Dookudu increased the market again.

Universal stories will do well across languages
I feel that our films do well in any language if we do universal subjects. But most of our films are limited to our territory. In order to make our dubbed films work in Tamil, we should do more universal subjects. SVSC is one such an example.

Sukumar film is an action entertainer
I am currently doing a film in Sukumar’s direction in the production of 14 Reels banner. We haven’t decided on the title yet. If you have any interesting title, please suggest me. It’s an action entertainer. At the same time, you can expect different characterization and interesting screenplay you generally find in Sukumar’s films in this film.

4 films committed so far
I have committed 4 other films. One is Aagadu in the direction of Seenu Vytla on 14 Reels banner. This film will start in the month of June. The other three are in the direction of Puri Jagan, Vamsi Paidipally and Krish.

About Mani Ratnam’s film
I was supposed to do a bilingual with Mani Ratnam. It was a dream project. But, the producer felt that the budget was too high. Mani Ratnam has called me and informed me that we should do it at a later point of time.

Increasing the brand value of brands
I had a huge gap of 3 years between Athidi and Khaleja. During that time I had endorsed many brands. I am against selling products unless it appeals to me. I make sure that I like the creative first. It should help the brand and it should be in sync with my philosophy/personality. These brands do a survey first. They show me the results about it. I find that my name is far ahead than others. I do endorse brand only after getting convinced. The commercial should work for me as well as for the brand.

I was in tears watching Kamal Hassan’s interview
I saw interview of Kamal Hassan on TV regarding Vishwaroopam few days back. I was in tears. He is one of my favorite actors. It is very unfortunate that something like this has happened to Vishwaroopam. I pray that it will be a commercial blockbuster in Tamil.

Namrata contributes to peacefulness in my life
Namrata makes sure that home is peaceful. It makes a lot of difference to me. I find happiness in simple things.

Smiling Sitara
My daughter Sitara is six-months old now. She is just smiling now. She is yet to learn to talk.

Focus on Telugu films only
My focus is currently on Telugu film industry. I am not planning to act in any Bollywood film.
