| 23 March 2010 My Movie – Prasthanam
Let me start off with a big thanks to Mr.Deva Katta. Thanks for giving us this sincere and thoughtful movie. I often hear that the telugu movies shun away from serious stuff/hard hitting movies and I used to second with this opinion as we seldom get to see these kind of movies. I was very happy when I saw 'Gamyam' and happier after seeing 'Banam' and now with "Prasthanam" I can say that Telugu movies do not lack punch and telugu people do not just come to the theater to get entertained with fights, dances and comedy (as it is popularly known and repeatedly announced by some movie makers). After a long time I’ve seen a movie which gives an emotional high, entertains and at the same time ignites a deep thought in ones mind about the basic facts of life. Needless to say the dialogues are just amazing and take the movie to a new level. Take the opening of the film; the scene before the interval where an old man explains Darkness/Light; Final Confrontation scene and the list goes on…! I watched the movie with songs and still liked it for the sheer content it had which over shadowed everything. I was feeling that the movie would have double the impact sans songs and when I heard that the songs were edited and the movie is doing much better,it made me even happier.(Again contrary to a very popular and forcefully imprinted belief that telugu movies need to have 5 to 6 songs). "A Solution may not be the end of a Problem; but the sole purpose of a Problem is always Solving." I do not know if this line or it's essence is a part of any of the numerous foretold philosophies or books; but this is exactly my understanding on the narrative used by Mr. Deva Katta in his latest venture, 'Prasthanam'. By choosing the 'first-understand-the-problem' mode of narration over the 'drive-to-the-solution-quickly' mode of narration, he put himself among those film-makers who have the patience to explain to the audience, than just impress them. No gimmicks, no tactics; this film is a fine example of pure, sensible story-telling. Sir, if it takes 5 years(Vennela 2005) for you to make a movie like "prasthanam", we do not mind waiting and we wish more makers will fill that gap with genuine, meaningful cinema. My Friends and others say I am good at talking but not writing..! But I tried my bit and managed to write a little about “Prasthanam”...THE Movie." signing off..che
