Open letter to Guna Sekhar about Gona Ganna Reddy

Dear Sri Gunasekhar,

I am delighted to know that you are making the film 'GONA GANNA REDDY' with Hero NAGARJUNA AKKINENI in the lead. This novel by Sri. Adavi Bapi Raju(1895-1952) is a favourite of mine and I venture to give a few suggestions through this open letter.

1. Gona Ganna Reddy was the ruler of ' Vaddemani ' (now in Mahabubnagar district) during 1262-1296 AD under the Kakatiya Queen Rudrama Devi.When many noblemen of the Kakatiya Kingdom were against the choice of a Woman becoming a Queen, Ganna Reddy was one of the few nobles who staunchly supported the selection of Rudrama Devi.

2. Not much is known about Ganna Reddy but he seems to be an active and valiant noble of the kakatiya kingdom. He seems to have held the Office of Customs Revenu ('Sthala Sunkadhikari') according to some sources.

3.He is named after Lord Krishna and he is the father or uncle of Gona Buddha Reddy who is the author of "Ranganatha Ramayanam" in Telugu.

4.I request you to take special care regarding the costumes; they should be authentic costumes as worn by 13th century Telugu people especially around the capital of the Kakatiya Kindom, Warangal.Filming can be done in and around the Ramappa temple area of Warangal.

5.Apart from Ranganatha Ramayana, 'Nritta Ratnakaram' a work on dance by Jayapa Senani a kakatiya minister would be a good reference book for making of the film.

5.I give a selection of Artists who, I think would do full justice to the Characters in the novel GONA GANNA REDDY. I request you to consider the names while selecting the Cast.

b. Annambika -Sneha
c. Rani Rudrama Devi - Jamuna( or some Senior Actress)
d. Chalukya Veera Bhadra -Akkineni Nageswara Rao (as a Guest/Respected appearence)
e. Siva Devayya Desika -Gummadi (or some Senior Actor)
f. Janniga Deva - Kaikala Satyanarayana
g. Lakumayya- Kota Srinivasa Rao
h. Kota reddy- Tanikella Bharani

6.As the Novel has many scenes of Battles and Fights, Hollywood films like ElCid, Alexander,Lord of Rings Triology etc; can be taken for guidance to film the action sequences.

7.Special care should be taken in filming the Songs and Dance. 'Perini siva Tandavam' a dance form which originated during that period,(and now brought into popularity by Dr.Nataraja Ramakrishna)can be incorporated breifly.

8. Music should be melodious with a 'Classical Touch' but should not be Slow.
