Story
Virat (Sai Dharam Tej) is a youngster who believes that bachelorhood with no emotional connect with anybody is the best way to live. He creates a group with a slogan ‘Solo Brathuke So Better’ and influences many boys and girls to join into it. After working for a few years, he realises that his philosophy is wrong and marriage is the best way forward. But his past catches up with him. Rest of the story is all about how he amends for his mistakes and convinces everybody that marriage is the best choice.
Artists Performance
Sai Dharam Tej is very good with his comedy timing. He is excellent in emotional scenes in the second half. The inner struggle he goes through while spending time with the heroine is expressed well. Nabha Natesh makes a dramatic entry during intermission and brings a lot of energy with her enthusiastic demeanor in the second half. Vennela Kishore is excellent as a Kannadiga who speaks accented Telugu. He brings a lot of cheer in the first half as a frustrated groom. Satya is hilarious when he oscillates his head while encouraging the hero. Rao Ramesh gives another terrific performance as uncle. Rajendra Prasad and Naresh justify their roles well. Ajay plays a rowdy character and appears in a couple of fight sequences.
Technical departments
Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the film is simple yet has novelty in it. Hero’s past catching up just when he changes his stance about marriage is the main story idea for this film. It’s pretty difficult to write the second half with a single conflict point. Debutant director Subbu came up with a decent work in this film. There is ample entertainment in the first half and emotional struggle in the second half. Ideally, the climax of such films take place in an airport (like we had seen in many films in the past). The director has avoided all that melodrama to end the movie in the most simplistic manner. The initial location for the film seems to be Bangalore. By changing it to Hyderabad, the director has created some confusion about characters (Vennela Kishore and Jhansi having kannada slang and in subtitles also they have written it as Bangalore).
Other departments: Songs scored by Thaman are decent. There are four songs and all are paced well in the film. Background music is okay. Cinematography by Venkat C Dilip is alright. Dialogues are well written. There are only two fights and references to Ram-Raavan-Sita are used well. Editing by Naveen Nooli is fine. Production design is adequate. Production values by Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra are decent.
Analysis: Solo Brathuke So Better is a romantic comedy about a guy who decides to stay bachelor for the rest of his life. First half is entertaining. Second half is emotional. Plus points are casting, engaging narration and less runtime (2 hours and 6 minutes). On the flipside, the second half travels in a predictable manner. We had been missing theatrical experience for the past 9 months. Maybe Solo Brathuke So Better would be the right film to go back to a theatre with covid precautions and enjoy watching a Telugu film with the rest of the movie lovers!
