Lagadapati Sridhar is a passionate man with lot of conviction in filmmaking. He is choosing different genres for each of his films. His latest film Viyyala Vari Kayyalu is releasing on 1 November. Here is our exclusive interview with him -
What is your involvement in filmmaking?
I involve in filmmaking from frame one to last frame. My involvement will be there right from conceiving of the story. I am making films because I am passionate about them. I eat, drink and sleep movies.
Who do give credit for the fates of your movies?
I always feel that director is the mother and the producer is the father. If a boy behaves badly in their school, teacher scolds him ‘mee nanna evaru?’. If the product is bad, producer should be blamed first. I take credit of failures. And give the credit of success to the entire team.
How do you select stories for your films?
I observe the films that became hits in the past five years in various genres. I select the genre first and take one film as the benchmark. I try to make a film that betters all earlier films in that genre.
I want to represent everybody’s dreams with my films.
What is the reason behind making Viyyala Vari Kayyalu?
Humor plays very important role in my life. One should be very happy in order to have productive life. That is the reason why our company’s taglite is ‘circle of happiness’.
What is the theme of Viyyala Vari Kayyalu?
The definition of love is slowly changing. One must realize that love of the parents is much more stronger than the love among teenage couple. Only the Indian culture has parents taking care of kids in such a beautiful manner. For any marriage ‘mantralu’ are important. Likewise for all Viyyalu (marriage), Kayyalu (light hearted quarrels) are also important. We tried to show this marriage in an entertaining style.
We have seem many films with titles and concepts using the words nuvvu and nenu. But this film sticks to nuvvu - nenu - amma - nanna theme.
Gurajada Appa Rao once said ‘Tamboolalu Ichanu. Tannuku Chavandi’. We are conveying the message that this ‘tannuku chavadam’ should be there before ‘Tamboolalu’.
VVK has something for everybody.
Tell us about the lead roles?
VVK is between Srihari - a faction leader and Sayaji Shinde - a judge. Uday Kiran plays hairstylist and Neha Julka plays a student.
I always have prologues in my films. We had Dasari doing the voice over for Style film. We have superstar Krishna doing voice over for VVK.
What is your definition of good bride and good groom?
The boy should have individuality, good habits, positive thinking and helpful nature. The girl should be traditional, should have patience and should be satisfied what she has.
What is the reason behind selecting Sathibabu as the director for VVK?
O Chinadana is the sole reason for selecting him. I analyze people based on their talent than their recent commercial success. I feel that he never got any producer who can support the movie after release. I am going to promote this wonderful family entertainer a lot.
Why did you cast Uday Kiran?
I respect talent and he is talented. This subject is tailor-made for him. I am making films for audiences, but not for individuals. I don’t chase individuals who just had success. I chase people who have pure talent.
What films did you like recently?
Happy Days is one film that impressed me a lot. My earlier favorites were Bommarillu, NVNV and Style. I loved Chak De India. Dhee film entertained me to certain extent.
Tell us about the production of VVK?
We shot VVK is 90 working days. We exposed 1.2 lakh feet negative. I spent 6.5 crores on this film. And I am going to spend more on publicity.
How is the business?
I never sell my films. I only partner with my distributors. My movies are never for sale. I look out for distributor who appreciate values of filmmaking.
Are you going to make a film with your son in the main lead?
If you look at the logo, you see a mother and a kid. That is the photograph of my wife Sirisha and my son Vikram. I want to make a film with my son as hero. It will be in the lines of Home Alone genre. I see tremendous talent in him. He has zeal for acting.
What is your next project?
I am waiting for the release of VVK. I want people to know how much I worked for this film. I want to make 3 films next year.
