Review

Story
Anu (Keerthy Suresh) and Arjun (Nithin) are neighbors and friends from childhood. Anu likes Arjun and dominates him all the time. Arjun gets irritated as his parents compare him with Anu in terms of achievements. As Anu starts developing feelings for Arjun, he is unaware of it and is in a playful mood of taking revenge on her. Rest of the story is all about what happens when they are forced to marry each other.

Artists Performance

Nithin does a character that starts off as an immature guy and then matures towards the climax. He has done really well. Keerthi Suresh is exceptionally good in an author-backed role which goes through a lot of pain. She has shed weight and looks beautiful in the film. She has done amazing work in emotional scenes in the second half. Rohini plays the heroine's mother and she is very good. Brahmaji is hilarious as an overseas-education consultant. Vennela Kishore gives us comic relief in the emotionally strong second half. Vineeth is seen in a role after a long gap. Naresh, Abhinav Gomatam, Satyam Rajesh and Suhas are good in their roles.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Two childhood neighbors becoming friends is a concept that was much explored in early 2000 films like Nuvve Kavali and Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu. However, the director has added post-marital relationship angle to it to further the spectrum. Entire first half is filled with teasing/fight moments between hero and heroine. And they look pretty familiar. However, the director has handled mature content in the latter part of second half in a deft way (especially transformation of Arjun character after he realises the truth). The director Venky Atluri has written the character of the heroine really well. However, all the drama/emotions the audience go through pre-interval episodes turn out to be something else with the heroine explaining the real reason. It took some time for the director to build up the trust and he has done well from the drunken night moment. The climax is dealt well, however the first half lacks the freshness we look for in love stories. The commercial elements (the first song and a couple of fights) also brings in routineness.

Other departments: Music by Devi Sri Prasad is an asset. Emito Idhi and Naa Kanulu Epudu which come during crucial moments are very good on screen. Background music helps the emotions in the second half. Cinematography by veteran cinematographer PC Sreeram lives up to the title of the film. It's very good and is full of colours. Dialogues penned by Venky Atluri are meaningful. Editing by Naveen Nooli is good. Production design is decent. Production values by Sithara Entertainments are grand.

Analysis: The movie starts off on a regular note with popular youth/teasing entertainment. The real story takes off prior to the interval. Second half shifts to Dubai and the latter half of the film belongs to the female lead character that's performed excellently by Keerthy Suresh. The chemistry between Nithin and Keerthy is very good. On the whole, Rang De is a family/youth entertainer that's worth a watch despite some predictable stuff.
