My Movie - Si Ramarajyam

I watched Sri Rama Rajyam this weekend with my family. My wife and I had to recollect legendary actor NTR and his gift of Lavakusha movie to Telugu audience. Our ABCD son couldn’t quite follow the story; he knows bits and pieces of Ramayana but not the extended version. He couldn’t understand dialogues so he didn’t quite appreciate the movie. He was reluctant to watch this movie to begin with. I had to influence him to watch the movie to learn about incredible Rama and his unyielding commitment to serve the people.

Hindu mythology states story of Rama happened lakhs of years ago, however modern archaeologists estimate it might have happened about 5,000 years ago. Whether you believe it happend lakhs of years ago or thousands of years ago, one thing for sure all great Indian rulers’ leadership is still being compared to Sri Rama and Sri Rama Rajyam. I am a liberal and truly believe in secular India. I also firmly believe India will always be Sri Rama Rajyam. In the movie, Balakrishna says the meaning of Sri Rama Rajyam very well: It means the Land which was served by Sri Rama then only it means the land which was ruled by Sri Rama. Let us hope our present and future leaders thrive on making India as Sri Rama Rajyam.

As far as Sri Rama Rajyam movie, let me first state negative points then come to the positive aspects. I wish they come-up with script to portray Sri Rama Rajyam rather than retelling Lavakusha story. Lavakusha is already a legendary movie; if you watch Lavakusha today you would still appreciate creativity, music, visuals and grandeur so I am not sure what is the purpose of making another movie with same story. To me this is the biggest drawback of this movie and the lost opportunity. Title literally does not mean anything to actual movie. Once you digest this fact that it is a precise remake of Lavakusha with modern film-making technology, you can actually appreciate incredible sets and visuals of Sri Rama Rajyam. First half of Sri Rama Rajyam movie is very good. I personally liked the second half of Lavakusha. Vinudu vinudu Ramayana Gadha…song cannot be compared to the new song. I do think they should have used services of multiple lyricists than Jonnavittula garu. Jagadananda Tarakaa…song is addictive, I think this song will be one of the best Telugu songs forever.

Nayantara portrayed well as Sita Devi, she has shown poise, grace and elegance. If she is retiring as an actor after this movie, she is certainly leaving her career on a high note. ANR donned in the role of Valmaki, I believe ANR is the real hero of this movie. Sri Rama has a passive role even in original Lavakusha movie. Although Balakrishna did a great job as Sri Rama, his role is limited. Lava and Kusha child actors are OK. We have to appreciate art director and Bapu garu for recreating Ayodhya. Frankly, the art work and visuals have outdone Magadhera. Computer graphics designers should have a bit more imagination of incorporating deer into natural settings. You can easily tell deer were CG generated.

Overall Sri Rama Rajyam is a MUST watch movie, I wish they had subtitles so that our ABCD kids could have understand the epic story of Sri Rama and appreciate creativity of Sri Rama Rajyam team. You have to watch this sort of movie on the big screen to appreciate visuals, sets and music
